ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
At the age of 26, Michael Burgin has already released a fruitful catalog of indie-rock infused folk music, bar-room ballads, and working class anthems. 2012's 'Some Heavy Hammer' is his latest and perhaps his strongest effort.

For this record, Burgin has stripped every track down to it's core. The only instrumentation is his distinct and evocative vocal, an occasional harmonica and an acoustic guitar, often finger picked in what has become his signature style. A few tracks also feature a second acoustic guitar track played by fellow Asheville, NC musician Cyrus Atkins, who was also a band-mate of Burgin's in the short lived four piece band, The Drinker's Union. This is an album that truly relies on the strength of the songs, the depth of the lyrics, and the power of the delivery.

'Some Heavy Hammer' boasts 8 well crafted original songs and two traditional American folk songs, completely re-envisioned in Michael Burgin's genre-blending style. All 10 tracks were produced by Burgin and Atkins, marking his first release without long-time producer Cameron Babb since his 2007 debut 'The Gadfly'. This album was recorded entirely with analog equipment and was mastered by Carl Saff of Saff Mastering on the CD and digital versions and the vinyl was mastered by Dave Eck of Lucky Lacquers.
