After growing up on soul and R&B, then studying jazz, classical,
African and Indonesian music, pianist/composer Michael Cain began a performing career in the Los Angeles area working with musicians such as flutist and composer James Newton, jazz vocalist Marlena Shaw, the Gerald Wilson Orchestra, drummer Billy Higgins, and the New American Orchestra among others. After moving to New York, Cain began working with members of the M-Base collective such as Greg Osby and Robin Eubanks, joined Jack DeJohnette's Special Edition, and worked with artists Dave Holland, Steps Ahead, Dewey Redman, Ravi Coltrane, Bobby McFerrin, Stanley Turrentine, Pat Metheny, and Meshell N'degeocello. He has received numerous awards, including a 2006 Grammy nomination for Dance of the Infidel, Meshell N'degeocello's 2005 Shawnachie Records release, on which Mr. Cain is pianist and co-arranger. He has also recorded several records as a leader including Circa, a 1996 ECM release.
The Green Eyed Keeper is Michael Cain’s latest release. This recording features Jack DeJohnette on drums, Lonnie Plaxico on bass, vocalists Tondrae Kemp and Melissa Rose, and guitarist Matthew Fricke. It's a journey through Electronic, R&Bish, Soulville vibes, as well as piano/bass/drums trio vibrations. Enjoy!!

This is an amazing CD!! It's so unique, with so many colors, sounds, and vibes. It's very funky, it's jazz that sounds vital and alive, and the electronic music is very cool. It's an incredible journey from the beginning to the end, I've had it on repeat all day now, nonstop, and have been loving it! I can't recommend this CD highly enough!! Check it out!!

Ok, I just had to comment on how much I love this cd. You can truly get lost.
The Green-Eyed Keeper, is a very diverse mix of songs that takes you on a journey from earth to outer space. It’s a buffet of the finest assortment of jazz, neo-soul, spoken word, r&b and electonica.
Sounds and lyrics so bold and beautiful, that shifts and takes on different shapes and forms, moving you from a melodious mellow mood to a lyrically orgasmic high. Yes! All that.
I recommend this cd for your body, mind and soul.

I'll put this cd on to set the classical jazzurbian (yeah classical jazzurbian!)style I enjoy. Reminds me of a combination or Duke Ellington, Eric Benet and possibly Steven Thaughs. Love it!
