Four years have passed since Michael Carlos’s album debut, of “Yesterday’s Icons.” Within those four years Carlos’s experiences with death, tragedy, and triumph have played pivotal roles in shaping him as a true musical gem in the northwest. This album reflects on these events in producing a record that best represents his feelings and experiences over this monumental time period.

“Probably the best way to sum up this record is that it’s a hard look at some things I have been through in the last few years, but it also reflects on similar chaos in the world as a whole,” says Michael Carlos.

The new album showcases Carlos’s eclectic blend of rock, Spanish/Latin, alt-country, folk, and modern indie-rock. Every track on this record demonstrates Carlos’s musical variety. You can rock out with “Out of Control” and “More than one way down” or reflect with songs like “Gone too far” and “Wear it well.” In addition the album also includes Carlos’s first completed songs in Spanish, “Jenny’s Cumbia” and “Playerita.” “Jenny’s Cumbia” is a tribute song to Carlos’s girlfriend Jennifer Reese who died in a tragic car accident. Carlos was also severely injured in this accident and almost died, however he was able to recover and retain full mobility to all of his extremities.

“Damage and Remainder” is not just a documentary of the events in Carlos’s life. The lyrics in the album draw unique storylines which focus on the theme of change in a broader scope and not just on a personal level. The album leaves you wondering what happens next without really having all the answers. Listeners will love the upbeat and low tempos as well as the unique blend of musical styles.
