the Michael David project®


The Michael David project is putting a new spin to modern rock. The band combines talents of musicians from various musical backgrounds, to create a musical project that stands well outside the crowd of disposable one-hit wonders. At the forefront of the Michael David project's music is strong song writing, a key element that has earned them a rapidly growing fan base. Each song tells a story. Sometimes dark and often angry, they are bound by a strange optimism that rises thru adversity.

The heart of the project is its' namesake, Michael David. The singer/songwriter/guitarist has been writing songs for over 20 years. Born in South Carolina and raised in Canada, Michael David was surrounded by a family of musicians, it was only natural the he would follow this path. When the company employing Michael David closed down, it gave him the opportunity to focus on his music. His travels took him to Mexico, where after many well-received performances he decided to pursue a career in music. He returned to Detroit armed with a cache of songs and a vision of more than just a band, but a musical collaboration. In Detroit he opened the live music nightclub, Goodtime Charlie's. It was here where he discovered the musicians who would form the Michael David project.

Jazz fusion drummer and Detroit music veteran Charles Stuart was the first to join. Bassist Sean Bondareff, who played in everything from blues bands to classical quartets, soon followed him. The next addition was the multi-talented Brian Lord, who also lent his engineering expertise in the studio. Vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Julia Ingalls complete the Michael David project. The focus of the project was to bring Michael David's vision to life with the added influence of each talented musician.

A year was spent between The Furnace Room Studio in Ann Arbor, Michigan and 17 Grand's studio in Nashville, Tennessee recording their first album, the Michael David project. Rouge Records released the self- titled CD in 2004. The CD made waves outside of their hometown first, gaining airplay on many modern rock radio stations including ones that are almost impossible to be on without major label backing. To date the CD has sold over two thousand copies, quite a feat for a new band. The Michael David project will be hitting the road soon to promote the release nationwide. A recent live TV appearance on Detroit's local news and a live showcase with local legend Mitch Ryder has garnered the band new hometown fans. In the meantime, the band has already begun to record their second effort for release next year.

In October of this year, the website www.michaeldavidproject.com was launched. So far it receives an average of 2,500 hits a day.
