Album Notes

If you like Enya, Yanni or George Winston, then you'll absolutely fall in love with the music of Jeffrey Michael.

Composer, pianist and recording artist Jeffrey Michael has performed for millions of people and sold over 250,000 CD’s worldwide with his self-promotion strategy and record label Fireheart Music.

Jeffrey Michael grew up in Sterling Heights and Novi, Michigan. As a 2 year old he used to bang on his Great Grandmother’s piano. In 1983 she passed away and her piano was passed along to Jeffrey’s mother. She actually told him not to touch the piano for fear that he would damage it at such a young age. Naturally, he disobeyed her and began playing the piano by ear when he was 6 years old, going on to compose his own music by 11 years old. Jeffrey does not read music but rather is a self-taught musician who utilizes his excellent ear for his music and composes using a special shorthand that he developed as a child prodigy. Some of his musical influences include George Winston, David Lanz, Suzanne Ciani, John Tesh, Alan Silvestri, James Newton Howard, Hans Zimmer, James Horner, John Williams, Thomas Newman, Dave Matthews, Pink Floyd, James Blunt, David Gray and Coldplay.

At age 15 Jeffrey broke his right hand and could barely use it to play piano for many months which caused him to develop his left hand much more fully than many pianists. Now he is known for his dexterous two-hand counterpoint melodies. That same year Jeffrey borrowed $1,000 from his father, went to a recording studio and made a tape of his compositions that he began selling in his high school. In two weeks he paid his dad back. The next year he made another tape. By the time he graduated, he had sold 5,000 albums of instrumental music primarily to high schoolers!

1n 1996 after briefly taking business classes at Eastern Michigan University and Schoolcraft College, Jeffrey created Fireheart Music. Since then he has developed his company into an independent record label and music production company where he composes, produces and arranges piano CD’s. Under the Fireheart label he has released and self-promoted 7 piano CD’s including Inspirations (1996), Sailing to the Stars (1999), Winter Spirits (1999), Reflections (2000), Kaleidoscope (2002), After the Storm (2004) and Awakening (2006).

For the past 8 years Jeffrey has been touring the United States performing small concerts and more recently has become one the top art festival musicians in the country. He has also performed for many illustrious companies including Fox, Robert Mondavi Wineries, Versace and The American Cancer Society.

Jeffrey also composes music for film, television and video games. He has his own recording studio and has composed music for many projects. Some of his credits include music on the Sci-Fi Channel, ABC, Bravo and Oxygen as well as various reality TV shows.

Jeffrey is also co-owner of Half Genius Productions, an independent film production company in the Los Angeles area. He plays the guitar, enjoys screenwriting, painting, traveling, fishing, golf, hockey and has played soccer throughout Europe. He now resides in Hermosa Beach, California."

After the Storm is an excellent CD. This cd shows how talented Jeffrey Michael is. It is very refreshing to purchase a CD that is outstanding start to finish instead of purchasing a CD with one hit song on it.

Powerful and Passionate Piano
author: Kathy Parsons
“After the Storm” is Jeffrey Michael’s sixth release on his own Fireheart Music label. Melodic and passionate, this is quite an impressive package. Self-taught from the age of six, and composing in his own musical shorthand since the age of eleven, Jeffrey Michael has a powerful and expressive touch and composing style. His left-hand sometimes falls into overly repetitive patterns that can detract a bit from the strong and effective melodies, but I don’t know how many non-pianists would notice. Overall, the music is eloquent, rich, and very enjoyable. “The Storm” is a very interesting piece inspired by George Winston. The left hand patterns are repeated exactly the same too many times for my ears, but provide a driving rhythm. The right hand plays in the normal registers, but also crosses over to the deep bass of the piano, making up for some of the harmonic changes that don’t come from the left hand. I really like the feel and spirit of this piece - there is a lot of energy, and the right hand does an excellent job of telling the story. Appropriately, “After the Storm” follows - a study in peace and tranquility - very flowing and elegant. “The Edge of the Ocean” also has energy and passion with arpeggiated chords in the left hand and a lovely melody in the right. “Stillness” is again serenely elegant and flowing - it’s very easy to let your mind wander off while listening to the peaceful melody. The CD closes with “The Dreamer’s Waltz,” the first piece Jeffrey Michael composed at the age of eleven - sweet and simple, but with a lot of heart. At the age of 26, Jeffrey Michael is very impressive. With a little more variation in the left hand patterns he plays, his work could become stellar.
