Album Notes

‘Float’ was recorded in lexington kentucky, 2006, by Duane Lundy at Shangrila Studios, with further production by Justin Phelps in San Francisco. The cd features “Scourge Of The Sea” a great band from lexington, plus Duane Lundy, and many veteran players from the San Francisco area. Mixed by Justin Phelps at Hyde St Studios, San Francisco, and mastered by veteran engineer John Cuniberti at The Plant in Sausalito, California.Although still primarily possessing a folk pop feel, ‘float’ moves more widely within the fields of americana, country, folk, pop, and folk rock than the previous “river of days”. Gathering members from the bands of Jolie Holland, Ryan Adams, and Chuck Prophet, a dreamy, intimate quality permeates the recording.

Intelligent, well-thought and ultimately mesmerizing

Where Michael Joy's first CD had an underlying current of hope that ran through each song, this record is maybe a look into the darker side of this very talented singer songwriter. Equally mesmerizing as the his first effort, but with a dark foreboding element that gives a depth of melancholy that is hard to shake. But it's a feeling that you don't want to shake. This is a CD that grows on you with each listen. And when he says, "there's a sadness woven in the heart of man," you believe him.

Be still….listen closely as there is a heartfelt story in every musical poem on this CD. Memorize as you listen and you will have treasures for your heart….memories of days gone by and beautiful hope for tomorrow. Then……dance awhile to “Johnny told Me” and your day will be complete! Again, another brilliant display of talent!!

A finely crafted work of art from the heart of a true poet

Michael again has produced a CD worthy of his last name. While his previous Cd River of Days was deliciously more Americana in style, Float is ostensibly a work from the heart of a true poet. Wrapped in the richness of finely crafted musical arrangements, his words speak volumes of the complexities of life brought to bear in the pursuit of love. Michael is a master musician and wordsmith, and with every new listen sends one on yet a greater inspired journey of appreciation for life's intrinsic beauty and power.

The kind of cd you'd enjoy alone or with someone special. Each song is a thoughtful tale with lyrics everyone can relate to...Track #10 titled "Johnny Told Me" this song makes you smile...We've all experienced the story being told. When you listen closely you may just think you know "The Johnny" referenced...."Ring of Fire". Michael Joy's first cd is still a personal favorite..."River of Day" is the album and my most favorite song is "To Climb"..This song is a true treasure....A man searching for simplicity in a relationship...he is obviously over chaos and drama.
