All I can say a DAMN, rarely has a CD caught my attention after the first listen like yours. I will be giving this one a good workout on the airwaves. There is a lot of great material for airtime. It sounds like "punk-folk" and I mean that in a good way, mainly in the raw intensity which pours out of the music.
This CD will be getting airtime here at WCNI for a while, it is releases like this which makes it enjoyable to be a DJ promoting independent music for a freeform radio station.

it is refreshing to hear music without pretension

In this age of commercialism where it seems most artists strive to produce the next MTV video, it is refreshing to hear music without pretension. Unadorned, sometimes sparse, but always with a note of honesty, Michael’s songs are appealing because he shares something of himself with the listener.
No one is going to mistake Michael’s vocals for Luciano Pavarotti. But in a style reminiscent of early Bob Dylan, his voice fits the music, lyrically, as well as providing the appropriate counterpoint to the acoustic guitar.
Blackwater Canyon is off the beaten path, stylistically, intellectually and emotionally—it isn’t for everyone. But, if you want glitz, mirror-polished production and vacuous content, there’s always MTV.
