Thanks for visiting, listening, and reading. I am very pleased to be able to bring you these songs. Each one represents a slice of my experience, or vivid imaginings, in this wonderful reality we find ourselves in. If this sounds existential…you would be correct! Life is as obvious as what we see, but we get glimpses of the great unseen that some us try to render as they flash by. That’s why songwriting is such a charge. Where does the inspiration come from? “I don’t know. From everything, from nothing,” is the dumb but correct answer.
It is my heart felt wish and hope that the Universe grants you everything you need in abundance to carry out your life mission.
TRACK NOTES
Somewhere Doin’ Something
Procrastination is definitely a lifestyle choice. The philosophy is that if you wait long enough, many things take care of themselves…or other people will take of what you should have. This song celebrates a connoisseur of this lifestyle, carefully cultivated through years of dedicated practice, who shall remain nameless.
This Ain’t Love
Between work, family, social responsibilities, unwanted impositions, and endless opportunities for diversions, we can easily lose connection to those we love and to the purpose of our own life. The excess of want, in stark contrast to the excess of need in the world, can be resolved if we believe in such a goal. A change in attitude, an act of generosity, recognition of those we love and of the humanity of all people, are small steps that will help us find our way.
Thunder in Your Voice
This song is dedicated to those brave “road warriors” who are away from home trying to earn a buck. Separation does lead to stress between lovers and to that inevitable, dreaded phone call, usually at night when you call home to check-in after finishing a gig. I wrote this song at a bar one night during one of these road trips.
No One Else But You
Life is sweet when you find your soul mate…that person who enjoys doing what you like to do and vice-a-versa.
Borderline of Love
And then there are relationships that are almost right, where you just can’t figure out what to do next to cement the bond. So when the tormented soul sings, “I have a map to your heart with some pieces missing,” he, or she, is truly lost and is pleading for guidance.
Painted Dreams
This is a serious song about a serious issue. Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) remains a legacy of war for many of our veterans. Haunted by uncontrollable flashbacks, while awake or asleep, these individuals are vividly reminded of the trauma and horrors that they experienced. Accompanied by emotional detachment and highly reactive responses to everyday events (hyperactive startle reflex), normal functioning is difficult to achieve without medical and psychological help. “Painted Dreams” is a song about coping with PTSD.
Whisky Blues
Alcoholism is a fact of life for many. Functional alcoholics have a story to tell about their love/hate relationship with the bottle. And nested in with the pain and angst is a bit of humor and a curious acceptance, or at least, resignation.
Keep Walkin’
The foreign policy bungle with Iraq was the inspiration for this song. The warped rendition of the U.S. National Anthem and the chorus of “acirema” (America) reflect the sentiments of many that our leadership is misguided, and has taken our great country in the wrong direction.
White Stretch Limo
The idea for this song came from an experience in the Bahamas. A bunch of us were looking for a ride when we snagged this white limo. The chauffeur said he had just lost a booking and was available. We went off down unfamiliar roads…goin’ off to die? Morbid thought, but the concern was voiced. The twist in this song is that the lyrics are allegorical. Hint, the white limo symbolizes life on this planet.
Wings of Freedom
I wrote "Wings" as a tribute to those rare individuals who possess the courage to rise above thei
