Michael Plater is a solo singer/songwriter based in Melbourne.

Taking in various indie, rock, lounge, folk, gothic, and noir influences, his music has been compared to such artists as Leonard Cohen, The Velvet Underground, The Triffids, Nick Cave, Tom Waits, Johnny Cash, Tindersticks, and Joy Division.

His 2006 debut album “Rented Rooms” received airplay and media attention in such areas as Spain, The U.K, Italy, France, and the U.S.

His new album “Our Past Lives,” a more varied collection of gothic folk, Velvets-inspired rock, chamber pop, spaghetti western, and country waltzes, was released in Feb 2009.
