BIO:

“The front man is a girl.” An innocent statement from a fan at a show excitedly conveying to Michele Ari that she was “just like” those cool punk bands from the 70′s–only she was a woman. The show that night was by no means her first. Michele brought out her band, waking up the audience through a mix of welcome jolts and a bit of “who does she think she is?”

Prior to her critically acclaimed debut release “85th and Nowhere,” Michele arrived in Tampa, Florida (via NY and LA) with songs brewing in her soul. Those songs had taken a back burner to other artistic endeavors until the time was finally right. In short order Michele was writing songs, playing live, appearing on
radio, in the papers as a “Critics Choice” and “Best Bet” alongside Tampa Bay’s cream of the crop, and at some of the most sought after venues and shows in the area. She recorded her first record, joined MySpace and garnered an international fan base. Mere months after her first release, Michele was invited
to play a festival alongside Patti Smith and other luminaries at London’s Royal Albert Hall (which was, sadly, canceled).

She met the press, where in revered publications by trusted music critics came overwhelming praise for her debut effort:

From Seattle: “Ari is not cut from the same cloth as most of today’s female rockers… Keep an eye out for this lady! She’s going places.” (The Wig Fits All Heads)

From London: “Her album has a full and infiltrating richness so overwhelming and formidable nothing could ever possibly distract from this!”(Subba-Cultcha)

Again from London: ”Ari has a bittersweet vocal style that is at once enigmatic and revealing…heartbreaking and astonishing.” (Whisperin and Hollerin)

In Sweden Michele was referred to as “gifted,” (Collected Sounds) and in the Philippines, she was described as “probably one of the most important artists you have not heard yet.” (The Manila Standard)

Fans were quick to give rave reviews as well.

Following a series of zigs and zags, Michele arrived in Nashville, the city she now calls home. She had met with both triumph and tragedy along the way–as all people do who are on “the road less travelled.” Even during her darkest hours she continued to attract the attention of fans and press receiving air play on Radio One in London with host Opal Bonfante and winning 100 percent of listener votes for her song “My Sleeping Beauty” on Moray Firth Radio, the UK’s farthest reaching broadcast station. It was only the second time in the show’s history an artist had done so.

In Nashville she returned to live shows and was soon nominated by Deli Magazine (Nashville, SF, Chicago, NY, LA) as “Artist of the Month,” which she won by a landslide over many of Nashville’s more prominent bands.

Juggling a new city and set of circumstances, Michele re-ignited her touring career, visiting New York, Chicago, Atlanta. She made radio appearances in Nashville (WRVU) and Chicago (Fearless Radio). Michele finally released her follow up EP aptly titled “mal a’ propos” meaning out of place. Positive reviews from around the world resumed and requests for interviews both locally and abroad (Rock and Reel UK) were fulfilled.

Like many Nashville artists, Michele focus was forced to change as a result of the city’s Flood of 2010. But her next release “High and Lonesome” will see her back on track. The new tracks, recorded in both Nashville and England with special guest musician Roman Jugg (formerly of legendary punk band The Damned), are scheduled for release in 2011.

when you gave your \"85th And Nowhere\" to Debbie Harry at a concert? Simple: you support the artist (and your deprived ears) and get another copy! This CD is worth repeated listenings, and we (meaning I, other fans, and the public at large) need to hear more of Michele. As for a review, my original one is under \"Lovok\". Bottom line, this CD is worthy of a repeat purchase.

100% of listeners can't be wrong

Mix the best bits of Maria McKee and Kasey Chambers, add a dash of Chrissie Hynde, and then garnish with a sprinkle of Debbie Harry, and you've got the voice of Michele Ari. Already making waves, having won Moray Firth Radio's 'Shandy Showcase' with 100% of the listener vote (yes, that's right - EVERYONE who voted that night voted for Michele), 85th And Nowhere will, if there's any justice in the world, be one of those albums that end up being sold on ebay in years to come for the price of a small African village, because if there's any justice in the world, Michele Ari's name will be one you'll hear a lot of. Musically, the title track and Please both bring back memories of REM when they were good (remember that?), while Pretty wouldn't be out of place on any of the established 'classics' of the rock canon. As for 1000 Kisses, the fact that Michele hasn't yet had her door beaten down by someone from Hollywood, desperate to include the song on their latest rom-com soundtrack, proves once and for all that the movie industry really is full of people with no sense and no ears. Lyrically, the album varies between beautiful poetry and every day universal themes (is there anyone out there who can't identify with the story behind Nevermind's 'Woke up in last night's make-up, wearing last night's dress'?), and it's this combination of the lyrics, the musicianship, and, most of all, the voice, that makes 85th And Nowhere a joy to listen to. The most remarkable thing about the CD is the songs that AREN'T on it. Anyone who's regularly visited Michele's Myspace page over the past year or so will have heard songs that are easily the equal of any of those that made the final cut, which other artists would have earmarked as singles. Michele Ari merely leaves them to one side and teases us with them. My only complaint about the album would be that it's too short. I want more! Always leave them wanting more, they say. Beat the rush and get in now before she's huge, I say.

To say that Michele Ari wails is understatement. To say that she rocks would simply be not enough. How can I convey the essence of Michele's voice, work, words, music in this small box? Michele' voice is majestic and gripping. Her music and lyrics weave you into her clutches forever to be a fan.

What an awesome refreshing cd. Drawing from a list of influences that include Joni Mitchell, Patti Smith, The Church, The Turtles, The Ronettes and plenty more this cd sounds very emotional and unique. The lyrics hit right to the bone. Some of the songs seem to be about fallen friends or failed relationships and Michele comes out on top watching from a distance. My Sleeping Beauty has some great guitar work, the keyboards and strong beat of Please will keep in your head for days. Michele mixes styles up a bit with great success Pretty is slow and bluesy. the cd ends on a positive note 1000 kisses the only song she had a co-writer on. Its slower, optimistic and more acoustic based. The cd leaves you hungry for more and Michele is currently in Atlanta working on new material and getting her new band together. I look forward to the next release.
