Multitalented actress and signer song writer, Michelle Boback, fell for the calling of Montreal two years ago. Already a working actress while living in Vancouver, she is now gaining attention from the music industry with her jazz-pop influenced music. She gets all her charms from her distinctive creamy voice that she pours over smooth rhythms she composes.
Since she made the move to the east coast, Michelle has been keeping busy with theatre, radio and film projects. She has just completed a 3 song EP “Pontoon Bridge” at Piccolo Studios in Montreal. She is very excited to be presenting new songs that reflect the maturity of her talent. This EP will really set the mood for loungy ambiance mixed with acoustic grooves.
Michelle started playing guitar after she left Winnipeg, her home town, at the tender age of 19. She ran away to the Monashee Mountains in BC where she lived in a converted tool shed and thought herself guitar. By writing and composing songs, Michelle felt the need of performing… She then got enrolled into Schoolcreative, Film and Television acting in Vancouver. She has been involved in many different projects since then, being active in the entertainment industry. She produced her own show which she presented for one full year at The Purple Crab (restaurant & Bar) in Vancouver, mixing live music, DJs, dancers and other performers.
On the flip side of her music career, Michelle was an industrial/electronica vocalist for Guenter Schulz and En Esch (both of KMFDM-fame) and is featured on three of their albums as the band 'Slick Idiot'.
She believes that working with passion and staying connected with other artists is the only way to success, she says: “I perform out of necessity for mental well being!”
Last year at the Toronto Music Week 2009, Michelle had the opportunity to play for the famous composer Dan Hill. He had this to say about her and her music. '(Michelle)...is a very talented singer/songewriter....such soulful guitar rhythms with a velvet voice to match.'
Over the last year, she has been busy working with director Patricia Chica promoting the short film 'Day Before Yesterday' which she won a 'Best Actress' award for at the Director's Chair Festival in Statton Island. And to date she is nominated for an ACTRA award for the same role. She has been approached by two independent films (Montreal, and UK) for use of her song 'MmmElilas', and is working hard at promoting her new EP and garnering a label deal.
