Album Notes

Michelle Russell is a New York Cabaret singer, who has performed in many venues on both East and West Coasts.

This recording with the Moonlight Band came into being in an effort to bring back some of the romance, glamour and fun of music in other days.

Michelle Russell grew up in Southern California with a fascination and love for early 20th century music. From a young age, she performed with her mother in stage shows, hospitals and retirement homes. After moving to New York City, Michelle studied the art of cabaret and performance from those who had honed their craft in the high time of this art.

In the 1990s, Michelle had the good fortunate to perform with some of the greats from the Big Band era. During this time, Michelle was blessed with the opportunity to know and work with pianist - songwriter, Bennie Martini. Bennie wrote a song based on his wife's favorite TV show, "I Was Touched By An Angel" and presented it to Michelle the next day. As time passed, "Touched By An Angel" became known Michelle's song and was a much requested song at all her performances. (Check out the link below to see a live performance with composter Bennie Martini.)

REVIEWS

Decent, but I would not call GREAT
author: Bruce R. Gilson
One of the reasons I got this CD was because I like Doris Day, and it was recommended on this basis. The first two songs on the CD are among the first few Doris Day hits I got to hear in my youth, and they gave me a good chance to evaluate the collection. On "Shanghai," I was somewhat disappointed -- she did not have the feeling that Doris Day brought to the song. I liked her version of "Again," however, much more. Michelle Russell is obviously better at the slower numbers -- this one worked very well.
