Album Notes

An engaging singer/songwriter from the Philadelphia area, Mick Choder blends introspective lyrics, a tongue-in-cheek attitude, and funky guitar grooves.

With a rich history of performing in various original and cover bands on the East Coast, Mick began to perform his favorite originals as a solo artist in 1996, often accompanied on lead guitar by Tony Caruso (you'll hear his influence on this CD).

His self-produced debut CD "OK Now What?" was released in March 2001. Mick toured nationally in summer 2001, and performs regularly in the Philadelphia area, where his fan base is growing steadily.

REVIEWS

Thoughtful guitar-based songs with a pleasant ambience
author: Phillip Raskin
On Mick Choder's full-length debut "Okay, Now What?" he shows promising songwriting chops. Cleanly arranged but never stark, the disc is a very agreeable listen from start to finish, as Choder addresses standard singer-songwriter concerns such as life, love and loneliness. However, despite the subject matter, "Okay" is no downer; rather, the songs seem permeated with a quiet optimism. Much of the lyrical focus is on relationships and their inherent complexity, an area Choder finds himself returning to again and again. In Revelations Come he sings, "You fell asleep in my arms last night / but I couldn't hold you." Later, Choder finds himself waiting for and wondering about a lover in an airport on the ethereal ballad Fly to Me, while One to Make it Mine wistfully revisits love lost, as he observes "I couldn't have written so beautifully alone." Other highlights include the infectious chorus of Send a Message and the ever-so-slightly country-tinged Although I'm Fine. Overall, the disc shows a precise maturity usually not found on debut recordings. Guitar arrangements are lush without being overbearing, songs flow smoothly into one another and the backing vocals sweetly blend to form the perfect backdrop for Choder's distinctive baritone. "Okay, Now What?" is a great disc to put on when you're feeling a bit introspective.
