Album Notes

This is a collection of ‘social conscience’ songs by Mickey Coleman and Plunkett McGartland. With a deep love and a sense for social justice, Mickey Coleman’s thoughts have been transformed into words. With his poetic and artistic talent he produced these wonderful evocative songs. A former GAA all-Ireland medallist, (2003) Mickey comes from a background of artists and musicians. His mind is as free and determined as the eels that travel from the Sargasso Sea each year to reach the shores of Lough Neagh where Mickey was brought up in Ardboe, Co Tyrone. His fine voice reaches every one who listens. He sings about love and he sings from the heart about issues the establishment attempt to bury. The suffering of the little children in Gaza is brought to our very core in his lead song. He validates the pain of those surviving childhood abuse and those coming to terms with loss. Plunkett McGartland, is an accomplished musician who has made his debut nationally and internationally. His exceptional talent and mastery of the fiddle adds a sweet but powerful sense to these songs. He hails from Killeeshil in Co Tyrone. Both Tyrone men are our new far-reaching musicians/songwriters. Following in the tradition of artists like Christy Moore and Luke Kelly, we are privileged to introduce these two young men to the world stage of ground-breaking musicians and as human rights activists
