Essence of Death, Fury, and Melody
author: Eric M. Smith
I bought Mictlantecuhtli's 2001 Demo and liked it... but then I shelved the CD and kind of forgot about them. While browsing CD Baby, I found "Pillars of Silence" and "Warriors of the Black Sun". I ordered both of them and only have one thing to say... Damn!
The band has a lot of talent and something many bands are lacking - original ideas. Not to say that you cannot hear their influences (Iron Maiden, Immortal, Dimmu Borgir, Dissection and Emperor, maybe?) Mictlantecuhtli display a good mix of fury and melody, with their Aztec lyrical theme. This band is a great addition to the American Extreme Metal scene. I would call their style Melodic Black Metal, not that it really matters... It's great Metal with a bright future.

Mictlantecuhtli's "Pillars of Silence" is an Extensive masterpiece- Metal Maniacs... doest do this music any justice, unless you've heard it for yourself... It's the type of CD you want to listen to from beginning to end. If you dont own it, buy it now... buy two, play them simultaneously (at 11) and you'll hear darkness speak wisdom.
