As one of the most promising young bands in the nation, Midwest Hype enjoys a broad and energetic fan base. Hailing from the “Harbor Country” area of NW Indiana/ SW Michigan, MWH evolved into a force of music at Ball State University, adding members from the BSU School of Music. In the summer of '06, Midwest Hype locked in their horn section with Ben Morrissey (Sax) and Kevin Krizmanich (Keyboard/Trumpet) alongside Scott Whitford (Trumpet) hitting fans between the eyes with the funk, the whole funk, and nothing but the funk. Each band member's unique education, focus and skills collide to produce music that draws fans out of their seats and gets them moving through an entirely original blend of music.
Max Kepler’s driving force lays down the pulse of a mountain-rail locomotive on drums, while Nate’s bass rips out the rubber backbone that acts as a foundation for the rhythm section. “Wayne” follows suit with acoustic guitar, breathing life into lyrics with gravitas and a personal stake in every note. Reggae tempos streak to alt-hooks and hip-hop breaks flavored with the spice of Ben’s hot, Jazz-scented Sax and Scott’s herbaceous trumpets; all hydrated with backdrops, dives and saves from Kevin on Keys...power conducting through George Prellwitz' lead guitar as it rains colors across the stage.
Together Midwest Hype performances come alive in an upbeat party, engaging audiences on a physical and spiritual journey of polished studio synchronicity infused with a stunningly energetic stage presence. As full and cohesive their sound, each member is an individual with distinct and unique personas deep-rooted in their genuine Midwest upbringings seasoned with the flavor of their generation. As honest as they are with themselves and their music, they are unrelentingly funny people to be around—positive, fun-loving spirits that bring freshness and love to life.
