Album Notes

Perhaps the most startling aspect of Mighty Purple's music is its message. Many of their songs concern a nakedly unashamed quest for hope in the face of overwhelming personal misery. In many artist's hands, this kind of music turns into cornball goop very quickly. It's hard to laugh at Mighty Purple when they're doing it, however. Maybe it's the way the lyrics are phrased, maybe it's the searing guitar or mournful scale playing behind the voice. Sitting here writing this, all I know is that when you hear them you know they mean it. It's vindicating and makes you feel that you too can be almost militantly sincere about being a better person, and that good things can happen to you again.
After ten years as a unit, Mighty Purple's live show comes together in that way that only experience can impart. Where years of touring and recording form a casually tight sound filled with musical improvisation and humor. They're written more songs than they can remember, they've grown through the years from simple youth-rock guitar flunkies to adults who can compose
full live acoustic orchestral backings. Even solo, the two brothers that front the band, Steve and Jon
Rodgers, can still make a room really feel like they're part of the show.
In the end, it's up to you to decide. Listen to the CD, see them live if you can, and make your own decisions. There's so much more to say than can fit on this page, or even twenty pages. Tons of real personal history, subtleties, dramatic events, and lore hidden behind the deceptively simple songs.

another fine piece of the puzzle
author: Mark Lepkowski
I first heard MP back when they were doing open mikes in New Haven, CT, when the average age of the band was just about 18. Prefables shows the good tracks that can result when inventive people persevere over the years. They sounded great, powerful, interesting and one-of-a-kind when I first heard them, and this collection continues their story. Imposter is one of my favorite cuts, especially at the bridge with the unexpected bit at the mind games part...

Quite Simply Steve or John if you ever read this, this is more directed at Steve. Man i remember when you debuted your album at the show at Toad's, Rhonda argued with me on goin to see ya play, and frankly man i'm glad i went, that cd to this day gets play time, and every cd the band has assembled since then and before then has truly touched my heart, and inspired me to new heights i guess i owe you all a thank you in reality. Though Steve single handedly won me over when he came back out for that encore that night. Brother that is either faith or insanity either way, keep on what your doin guys you still rock.

this is probably MP's most cut and dry record... what can i say, steve rodgers is an incredible song writer. jon rodgers' guitar highlights his brother's songs brilliantly. Mp is gifted. this is clearly christian rock, now, the shift has been made complete... but it doesn't matter if it was pagan rock or whatever. the songs are great! go check them out. ps, buy all of Jon's solo records on CD baby too.
