Album Notes

Mike Barfield is the Tyrant of TX Funk. Git down to the latest sounds from Mike Barfield's second solo release since putting his beloved Hollisters on hold. Born in Houston Tx but now residing in Austin Tx. Barfield has established himself as a vocalist, songwriter and performer to be reckoned with. His first solo release " Living Stereo" honored some of his influences as a vocalist and was a unique combination of soul and country music. His latest " The Tyrant" which comes from a nickname given to him by a clubowner in Appleton Wi. after witnessing a performance is an all original affair with 10 songs written or cowritten by Barfield and his collaborater Mike Flanigin who also plays B3 organ with Barfield on this disc and in the live performances. The music on this disc is southern fried funk without the use of horns and also contains eccentric musical and lyrical twists which go beyond the sterotyped structures of the genere. When in Austin Tx. Barfield can usually be found performing at Austin's legendary Continental Club where he is a favorite of patrons and club staff alike. Pick up on these sounds and improve your love life.
