Hi, I'm Mike Dunbar,
People have told me I sound like Gordon Lightfoot, Lowell George, and Mr. Ed. I'm uncomfortable talking about myself, so I'm going to write the rest of this as if I were someone else. I kind of enjoy writing like that.
Mike Dunbar 'O2 is Mike Dunbar's newest cd.
Mike Dunbar is one of Nashville's busiest studio musicians. This album marks a return to his country/folk roots from his days as a familiar member of Chicago's folk scene of the 70's.
Fulfilling a life-long ambition, Mike played and sang everything on Mike Dunbar '02, as well as designing and drawing the cover. He also wrote and co/wrote all the selections. His songs borrow from folk, country, blues, jazz, and pop. Mike Dunbar '02 has an "Americana" feel to it, with it's jangly acoustic guitars and vocals that sound real and unaffected.
Chicago Magazine once called him "Chicago's favorite singer-songwriter." Nashville's newspaper, The Tennessean called him a Nashville "bar legend." His work as a producer for such artists as Terri Lynn, Dakota, Richard Dobson, and Lesley Schatz, has gained him notoriety throughout the U.S. and Europe. Mike's productions have been "recommended picks" for Billboard Magazine, and have been in the charts in Cashbox and Gavin.
As a studio musician, Mike Dunbar has played on recordings with Kathy Mattea, Dobie Grey, Delbert McClinton, Razzy Bailey, Townes Van Zandt, Hal Ketchum, Albert Lee, Jethro Burns, Joe Sun, and the North Mississippi All-Stars
. As a live musician, he has played with Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, John Prine, Steve Goodman, Connie Smith, Billy Joe Royal, Homesick James, Donna Fargo, Jo Dee Messina, Bobby Bare, Jim Ed Brown, Tommy Cash, Rhonda Vincent, and Big Al and the Heavyweights. His songs have been recorded by Susie Luchsinger, C.J. Chenier, and Michael Bohe. One of Dunbar's songs, Christmas In Chicago, was performed for the lighting of the Chrismas tree at Daley Center in downtown Chicago. Just recently, Cajun Roux, written by Mike Dunbar and Al Lauro, was performed by Al's band, Big Al and the Heavyweights on the popular TV cooking show, Emeril Live.
So, how was that? I mean did it sound OK, and did you feel funny knowing I was really writing it about myself? Also, what about the cover? I think it looks a little cheap, although I did it myself with my favorite pencil. No one else has told me it looks cheap, but they might be humoring me.
