Album Notes

"Beautifully layered harmonies over intriguing acoustic guitars."

Mike Grosshandler has crafted a collection of songs worthy of his influences, melding styles from a vast range of music including The Beatles, Nirvana, Alice in Chains, Smashing Pumpkins, Jethro Tull, The Verve Pipe, Led Zeppelin, J.S. Bach, and Type O Negative.

Recorded and mixed by Mike entirely in his living room on his computer, Scales is a self-produced lo-fi acoustic masterpiece.

As a bonus, included after 11 original tracks is Mike's rendition of the lovely Verve Pipe song, Veneer.

Mike G. plays guitar and sings in the Albany, NY based rock band, The Velmas. He's recorded a solo acoustic CD in his spare time, and wants the world to hear it.

REVIEWS

awesome

I got this cd, as well as his other solo disc, "Wrote Myself," about a year ago. I still play both of them all the time. Beautiful singer-songwriter stuff. It reminds me of early Elliott Smith or maybe even some stripped down Cat Stevens. Very pretty and delicate stuff, yet still upbeat and fun. Really great songwriting and just a nice, clean sound that always works when I'm looking for something a little more mellow to listen to.

Can't get the songs out of my head :)
author: Lura
The music off of Scales has been a complete lifesaver for me, I think I would have driven myself insane without some really, truly good music to listen to. The lyrics completely amaze me, particularly with the sheer amount of emotion conveyed. More often than not, no matter how many times I hear them, they render me speechless. Well great lyrics are all well and good- what about the sound? From the first track to the last are *incredible* harmonies, all sung by an equally incredible voice, that leaves you hanging on to every single word. Every note, every chord on the guitar- they're all beautiful. This is one CD I could let play all day, and not get tired of it- and then continue to hum the songs all night. It's definitely worth buying. If you even think you MIGHT like it, just go for it- it's not particularly expensive, and you WON'T regret it :)

a lot of acoustic - wheres the percussion?
author: Bob in NJ
Advertised as Acoustic Rock.. somebody should have omitted the word "Rock" - it's more on the balad almost folk side - the playing is good and the recording quality is very good considering the source!
