Album Notes

Mike Hamer has been playing songs for adults and children for over 30 years. Paralyzed in a diving accident in 1985, Mike took up the hammer dulcimer and has continued to entertain audiences young and old alike. Mike focuses on classic American folk songs that give people a sense of their past, and he also likes to get the audience singing along. He has a broad array of original tunes that range from folk to lullabies to rock and rhythm and blues. He performs both solo and with his band, Mike Hamer and the Rhinoceroses with the Angelic Choir. Mike also teaches songwriting, as well as non-fiction writing, at East Carolina University. Mike\'s seventh album, Finally Coming Home, will be released in July, 2008. Early reviews indicate that these acoustic songs carry a soulful depth with some lighter touches interspersed through the project. He lives in Greenville, NC and is now working on an album of children\'s songs as well as a collection of lullabies.

My wife and I have been listening to \"Finally Coming Home\" a lot lately, and hear something new everytime we listen. Mike has lived life to the fullest, and is able to communicate his adventures, both on the road and in his head, like few others. The viola player captures Mike\'s feelings as if they were his own. What an outstanding talent! Willie Painter does a fine job also, as do the rest. The music is great, but the lyrics speak to my soul. I find myself on that adventure with you......pleasing to the ear, touching my heart. I can\'t wait til the next one.

Hamer's latest CD showcases a strong collection of songs. An American songsmith to the core, 'Finally Coming Home', sounds like something you might have heard before--a long time ago. Track # 6, 'Soul of America', reeks of an authentic adventure lived out on the railroads and backroads of the countryside. The opener, 'Too Much Trouble', moans a tale of strife and sadness for an assortment of trouble-stricken characters. Hamer doesn't sound too down about it all though; he's too busy having a blast bringing us these great new songs which easily could've been lableled classics if recored long ago by a deified folk master.
