Album Notes

Mike Marino, a Singer/Songwriter, Guitarist & Dreamer of how the world could be... Reflective, Insightful, Subtle and Explosive his Folk Inspired Roots Rock, Americana style drawls inspiration from the days growing up on a South Jersey farm in the magical era of the 60's & 70's. His emotion and intensity derived from the constant erosion of the American Heartland.
Musically influenced initially by the British Explosion, particularly The Beatles, Cream, Procol Harem, Moody Blues, Jethro Tull, Blind Faith & John Mayall's Blues Breakers with Eric Clapton. However, Mikes songwriting roots are firmly planted in the Heartland's early West Coast sound of Buffalo Springfield, Byrds, America, Jefferson Airplane, Eagles, and the Folk Influenced Pop/Rock sound of CSN&Y. Marino's style of songwriting places him in the same solo genre as Dan Fogelberg, Eric Clapton, Steve Stills and Neil Young.
Having kicked around the Tri-State music scene for the past fifteen years playing everything from Folk Coffee-House gigs to hard driving Blues with such acts as Nationally Recognized Mike Dugan & the Blues Mission and Rock gigs with local favorites The Shakes, Marino has harnessed a style as a guitarist and songwriter being compared by Reviewers to some of Rock's Royalty.
Regarding Mike's debut release: "Last of the Heartland"

"This CD reminded me of The Band. The vocals at times were reminiscent to the late/great Rick Danco, & the Roots Rock instrumentation were great" Bryan Klausing-- Assoc. Producer- Acoustic Rainbow. (Poetman Records)

"Marino has successfully re-invented a sound that evaporated from the pop culture radar more than two decades ago. By combining elements of Acoustic Folk, Blues and Electric Rock, Marino revisits the sound and style of some of the best-recorded music ever made."
Indie Music Review-Jan.2002

Mike's been a featured artist as the Philly Pick on WXPN 88.5 Phila. -Helen Leight show and has gotten considerable airplay in the states as well as European and Australian Radio for tracks off his debut album.
Mike's new release, entitled Another World, features a fantastic line-up of players he calls his RestlessSoul. Marino further solidifies his brand of Americana/Vintage Rock Songwriting addressing issues of the day with a retro-vibe.
His vintage brand Rock with powerful lyrics reaffirms the role of the American Singer/Songwriter from a time when songwriting was not only a state of mind but a way of life.

Mike Marino-Another World

Mike Marino & His Restless Soul - Another World Artist: Mike Marino & His Restless Soul Title: Another World Genre: Rock, Blues, Americana, Roots Label: Restless Soul Records Sound Files: www.cdbaby.com/cd/mikemarino2 Website: www.restlesssoul.com Mike Marino & His Restless Soul redefines a world long since disappeared from American tradition and culture. The ‘60s, as tumultuous as they were, pale in comparison to the complex social issues we deal with today. Those were times that I could ride my bicycle around town without a care in the world. Today I cannot let my children walk down the street by themselves without having to worry that some sick individual will grab them and drive away. My point is that I can relate to what Marino is singing about in all of his songs. “Another World,” “Another Time/Another Place” and “Everything Has Changed” takes all of these thoughts and more and puts them into proper perspective from the artists’ viewpoint, which does not vary all that much from my own. This particular verse from “Everything Has Changed” really hit home: Once I knew my way around I could find you in the dark But now…everything has changed It’s tough to bear my fragile soul In such a cold hard world Now…that it’s all been rearranged! These are the words of poet/sage with a guitar; like a combination of CSNY and Lou Reed, heartfelt and to the point with a real world edge to it all. As indicated by the credits on this CD, Marino is D.Y.I. kind of guy and a literal one-man musical machine. He gets a little help from his friends, although the many talents he commands are his greatest advantage with this project. His guitar playing is very good but he could use some help in the vocal department. Sometimes he sounds good and in other instances, he is sub par, which brings the song down a notch or two, not to the point that it ruins the song by any means though. I think if he really wants to take his career to the next level, he should combine his talents with a lead singer, male or female, that has a stronger range and flexibility. His possibilities are endless. Musically this album is one of merit and worthy of your attention for many reasons. The combination of rock, blues, Americana, roots and poetry are an effective vehicle for making his point known and clearly understood, in the end the mission is accomplished and that is a victory for Mike Marino and the listener.
