Album Notes

Mike Marino, a Singer/Songwriter, Guitarist. Insightful, Subtle and Explosive his vintage flavored Americana Roots Rock drawls inspiration from the days growing up on a South Jersey farm in the magical era of the 60’s & 70’s. His fire and intensity fueled by the constant erosion of the American Heartland.

Mikes song writing roots are firmly planted in the American Heartland. His journey through American Music
started with his love of the Blues and then migrated to the early West Coast Folk/Country Rock sound of The Byrds, Buffalo Springfield, Flying Burrito Brothers, Stephen Stills/Manassas, CSN&Y, Poco and The Eagles sharing many of the same influences as the more recent Jayhawks & Thorns.
Mike drawls from all of these Blues, Folk & Country influences to create his own unique blend of vintage flavored Americana Rock. “Vintage Rock for a New World”, addressing issues of our time. He typically assembles a full band compliment to record most of his original material he calls his RestlessSoul. As a Solo Singer/Songwriter Mike gravitates somewhere between the styles of Gene Clark, Gram Parsons, Neil Young & Stephen Stills.
For this Album, his third release since 2000, Mike called out all the guns and assembled an All Star line up 12 Players/Singers in all with impressive credentials and more importantly some passionate playing and Harmony Vocals.
Co-Produced by Mike Dugan & Robert Campanell.

If you like the Byrds, CSNY, or just great songwriting to a Vintage 60's vibe let this album pull you "Out of the Darkness".

Having kicked around the Tri-State music scene for several years playing everything from Solo Folk, with the Philadelphia Songwriters Association, to Classic Rock gigs with various local bands and Blues with Nationally Recognized Blues Man Mike Dugan and The Blues Misson, Mike has honed a style being compared by reviewers to some of Rock's Royalty. He continued to develop his song writing skills throughout the 1990’s & finally released his debut “Last of the Heartland” in 2000, which received several solid reviews.

Regarding Mike’s 2000 debut “Last of the Heartland” Bryan Klausing-- Assoc. Producer-Acoustic Rainbow/(Poetman Records) wrote: "This CD reminded me of the Band. The Vocals at times were reminiscent to the late great Rick Danco, & the Roots Rock instrumentation were great!"
Mikes follow up to “Last of the Heartland” was his 2004 release “Another World”
National Independent Reviewer Keith “MuzikMan” Hannaleck wrote:
“These are the words of poet/sage with a guitar; like a combination of CSNY and Lou Reed, heartfelt and to the point with a real world edge to it all. The combination of Rock, Blues, Americana, Roots & Poetry are an effective vehicle for making his point known & clearly understood, in the end the mission is accomplished and that is a victory for Mike Marino and the listener”

His vintage brand Rock, addressing issues of our time, and poetic prowess reaffirms the role of the American Singer/Songwriter. Mikes dedication to this genre of music is unyielding. The combination of Blues, Folk-Inspired Rock, solid song writing & live delivery are the components of his success.

Artist: Mike Marino & His RestlessSoul Title: Out Of The Darkness Genre: Rock-Americana-Folk Label: Restless Soul Records Website: http://www.restlesssoul.com CD Baby: http://cdbaby.com/cd/mikemarino3/from/muzikman Mike Marino has completed his third release Out Of The Darkness. My first impression was that he certainly has come a long way from the last release Another World. In 2004, Marino was still developing his style and honing his skills as a singer/songwriter/musician. The rainbow you see behind him on the cover of this CD is indicative of the way he is feeling about life in general and the direction his career is going. This is all justifiable from my point of view as Out Of The Darkness is definitely his best work to date and a culmination of years of hard work and persistence. Some artists give you the opportunity to look into their souls through their music and Marino is one such individual. There are some great tracks on the CD. Different aspects shine brightly. For me the one that stood out the most again was the message Marino is putting out there. He has a Dylan like style and approach, not to mention sounding like him on more than one occasion. “Racin’ To A Red Light” is about the human “race” speeding towards the vortex of total insanity. This sits right at the top of the lyrics so you see it before the track begins, if you happen to be reading the words as it kicks in. I also enjoyed some of the fine guitar work that Marino presents in this project, whether its electric or acoustic, it is excellent. I have to mention that the artist was very smart about how this project came together; he managed to get some of the best musicians in the Tri-State Region to help. “Stuck Out In The Rains” is a protest song, just like the 60’s; it is very to the point and prolific. This is a track about the New Orleans floods and how Uncle Sam let everyone down .The abandonment and suffering of our own people was inexcusable. It hits home and leaves you feeling disappointed and wondering if something like that happened in your own town what would be the reaction to authorities that have control of funds and emergency relief. That is the whole point of this project; Marino wants to make you think about the world you live in. He does it with music that has a 70’s classic rock feel to it, with parts of country, Americana, and a little bit of the blues stirred in to give it the necessary emotion and power the lyrics need to make it come through consistently clear. As far as I am concerned, the artist has taken his work to an entirely different level this time out, as if on a scale of 10 he went from a six all the way up to nine. This of course leaves room for improvement and the goal of reaching musical perfection is what all serious artists aspire to. © MuzikReviews.com-http://www.muzikreviews.com

Excellent country/folk Rock CD!

“Out of the Darkness” by Mike Marino & His Restless Soul is a refreshing collection of modern folk/easy listening tunes. Opening with “Love the Good More Than You Hate the Bad” serves as the perfect gateway to the lyrical soul-searching found throughout the rest of the CD. Musically, “Out of the Darkness” is very appealing, hailing the use of beautiful organs, great guitar solos, and easy-sing-along melodies. “Here Today” shows off this great instrumentation, flaunting a rockin’ guitar solo. Picking up the groove is the very memorable and adventurous southern rock tune “Twenty Too Late,” which shows off Mike’s musical diversity. Vocally, Mike is captivating and has somewhat of a oldies vibe that boasts cross-generational appeal! Sound production marked by clarity and precision puts the wraps on this audio package. Fans of country/folk rock will enjoy this work of art!
