Album Notes

-M- is an experiment in sound. As writer, performer, producer and engineer, Mike Mudd has incorporated many of the styles he is interested in. The result is a sonic journey through melody, harmony, and noise, through the use of acoustic and electric instruments, ambient sound, and sounds collected by the Physics department at the University of Iowa.

Each cover of the first 100 discs has a unique piece of art by Samantha Chappell.

With one foot firmly planted in the singer-songwriter
tradition, Mike's versatile sound has not only drawn comparisons
to Dylan, and Woody Guthrie but also to Tom Waits,
Radiohead, Floyd, and the beat-jazz style of Kerouac.

Mike descends from a long line of musicians
from folk on his mother's side, to country
and gospel on his father's.

He began writing songs in middle-school and has
gone on to write hundreds of songs
and instrumentals.
He has performed in a wide range of settings
-everything from Celtic to alternative rock
to solo classical guitar to
crooning ‘20s-’40s popular songs.

Mike delivers dynamic solo performances
ranging from acoustic guitar and wailing harmonica
to any combination of acoustic
and electric guitar, percussion, and auxiliary
instrumentation-often encorporating real-time
looping and ambience.
