Mike Nelson is a San Diego-based guitarist/composer who earned his Bachelor of Music degree in Jazz Performance at San Diego State University. He studied classical guitar with Celin Romero, and jazz guitar with Bob Boss and Art Johnson.
Mike has a special gift for composition and arranging on the guitar. His work shows great attention to detail, avoidance of cliché, and a never-ending search for fresh, original sounds and textures. His playing shows great respect for tone and musicality.
He holds down several steady performing gigs, performs for weddings and corporate events, and teaches guitar in San Diego, California. He teaches private lessons from his home studio, San Diego State University’s Community Music School, and the Chula Vista Academy of Music. Mike is a former performer at the Chet Atkins Appreciation Society Annual Convention in Nashville, Tennessee. He was also a faculty instructor with the National Guitar Workshop during the summer of 2007.
