Mike’s songs are in essence a story of occurrences in his life. As an indigenous person, a father and a lover of nature, Mike’s songs are about life through his eyes. The love songs he plays share an expression of his heart through the flute.
“When you listen to this collection of songs, you hear beautiful music. When I listen to the songs, I can hear and see Mike Serna. I hear him laugh – I see his bright smile – I see him shifting his weight on his feet as he plays – swaying with the long notes, bobbing to the quick notes. Even though he has on sunglasses, I know he’s closing his eyes and he’s pulling the music we hear straight from his heart . . . from his soul.”
Annie Humphrey, two-time Nammy winner
“Outpouring his soul in music, Mike Serna creates a magic that touches the hearts of his audience . . .”
Flyingman, WAWL, “Ancestral Rhythms”

I awoke one morning the first week of May 2007 in Cherokee, to beautiful and soothing flute music playing outside our room. Upon peeking out the back door of our room, I met Mike. When he was done playing for an older couple, I clapped my hands and told him I thought Carlos Nakai was there, to which he humbly replied " I wish". This was the only CD he had with him and of course I bought it. It is great and I highly recommend it!

Music on this CD is delightfully varied
author: Charles Smith
I have many CD's of Native American music. Some varied, as this one, some more specific, like specific to healing thoughts, etc. Being a player of the Native American flute myself, I found this CD delightful in it's many different moods. Some sad, some delightful, some fun, as in the tune Funky Flute, some enchantingly beautifully and peaceful, as in Grindstone Mountain Serenade. For a much varied type of music CD, and one that gives you both a good feel for the many different moods of the Native American flute itself, and the music in general, this is a good one.
