Album Notes

MIKE SLIM- BIO:
Born in Hartford, Connecticut, MIKE SLIM has evolved from a fly by night recreational rhymer to a well seasoned problem to all competition. He will succeed because he doesn't try to do what everyone else does but he always brings his own flavor to the table. His time spent in the Bronx for the past 4 years has inspired him to take his passion for music seriously. His transition to Brooklyn has given him the proper opportunities to really make things happen.
Not only does he intend to put his hometown on the hip hop map, he intends to put originality back into hip hop music. In addition to Mike's solo material, he is the co-founder and lyrical leader of Beta Vulgaris; a live hip hop band including 2 dj's, a drummer, bass player, guitar player, and 3 mc's. The group's creative niche is that fact that it consists of members of different nationalities and genders. Due to the fact that the group members have such different backgrounds, the sound of the band is influenced by other types of music like funk, jazz, and R&B as well.
"Mike Slim", as he is known to the crew, is the mastermind behind many of the group's catchy flows and hooks. Blessed with the talent of swiftly authoring songs, Mike Slim is the prototypical lyricist for the 21st century who is highly concerned with lyrical content. Born to Jamaican parents, determination is in Mike's blood and he's determined to bring something new to the game. Influenced by prolific lyricists like Nas and Tupac, Slim approaches every rhyme with the intent of delivering thought provoking lyrics, while concentrating on flow at the same time. "A lot of these cats coming up now don't realize that the people get turned off by lyrics that they can't follow. Their not trying to evolve and do their homework on the music and think that because they have talent, they'll catch a lucky break", Slim says. However, luck is never a factor in Mike Slim's reality. "I don't believe in it (luck). I Really believe that I was put here for a reason. It's not a coincidence that I've been meeting the people I've been meeting and getting the opportunities I'm getting. It's all part of some grand plan".

Now that's real talk

Right Flow, Tight Production, and Pop Sensibilty= Welcome Introduction

I bought this cd after seeing slim in concert, and being blown away by one thing, his flow. Slim draws obvious influence from Jay-Z notable in the why he nimbly makes tough tounge twisters sound like nursery rhymes. Slim stands out on the tacks "Whatchu know about it"& the hader"Rockstar". The sung choras at the end of "I'll be right back" will have you hitting rewind. Mike shows a great pop sense and the production is riDICKulous for an indepdendant album. Slim occasionally raps without a clear sense of purpose, but his flow makes up for the occasional lack of content. After repeated spins of the CD it's apparent that dispite how good Slim is now, "the sky is the limit."
