You would expect a kid from Trenton New Jersey to be more concerned with the latest Kanye West cd than soaking up old school blues, but at just 26, Mikey Jr. impresses with every cut on "Look Inside My Pocket" - his fourth release.

It's clear this kid has done his homework. Every cut shows his respect for the harp masters that have come before him, while combining an aggressive edge that can only come from someone that grew up in the tough streets of Trenton. And he's no one trick pony either: He plays both diatonic and chromatic with equal aplomb. Though the songs on this release may follow the traditional blues phrasing, the strength of his harmonica skills make them stand out from other similar acts. As a vocalist, you can tell Mikey is singing from the heart and feeling every word of it.

Recorded at Severn Studios in Baltimore, Md. the mix is great and extremely well balanced. His band is also top notch and keep a pocket like nobody's business. This is a great cd from a young kid who is destined, in my opinion, to go down in the annals of the blues harp greats. Seriously.
