MIKO MARKS
Flint, Michigan-motor city's kin-is where Miko Marks began to define her singer-songwriter passions. Throughout her adolescence, she was further encouraged and thus gained a wide variety of enriching experiences utilizing her natural vocal talent. Over years, thousands have been touched by Miko's powerful, crisp, vocals.
Attending Louisiana's Grambling State University on a music scholarship proved very rewarding for Miko. While at GSU, Miko was enthralled with country music and its story telling. She felt as if the stories were universal and she had some to tell of her own. As she continued through college, her love of country music never faded and by fate, she became friends and collaborated with another talented Gramblinite, Erykah Badu.
By Graduation, she found herself swept away from the rural tranquil backwoods of Simsboro, Louisiana, to the "hustle and bustle" of city life in the San Francisco Bay Area. This extreme change incited ample inspiration for the start of her songwriting career. Her first song, "Find My Way Home" was written during this pivotal period. Shortly thereafter, she cut a demo at the legendary Fantasy Recording Studios, in Berkeley California. It led to the recording of her very first album.
Nowadays, Miko spends much of her leisure time in the studio experimenting with her own unique blend of country soul, playing gigs and immersing herself in country music. Gaining a broader understanding of the great impact Gospel and Rhythm & Blues have had on the foundation of American Country Music has fueled her motivation. She finds it extremely exciting to finding her own reflection at the root of what she loves.
What can we expect next from Miko? This year, she will debut her first CD, Miko Marks "Freeway Bound", which was recorded in Nashville with Producer, Ron Cornelius and will be released independently by Mirrome Records Inc., of Oakland California.
Whatever the case, Miko Marks is 100% guaranteed to turn heads with her vocal prowess and her bold jump into a genre that has never seen the likes of someone with her style and appeal. Just one listen and you will know that this girl is special! As she continues to mature as a singer-songwriter and performer, it's believed that destiny will lead this trailblazer to her dreams of collaborating with music's best talent, to produce timeless, legendary tracks, as Miko Marks "The Soul of Country".
