Album Notes

Mild Winter was formed in the Fall of 2006 by Ben and Melanie. The idea was to help each other finish a handful of songs we had written over the years. Those tracks became our first EP, Don’t Be Nervous. Shortly after finishing the CD we decided to try our hand at playing live. We asked some friends to play with us for awhile, and then we played by ourselves for awhile and then in April of 2007 we asked our good friend Nik Combs to join the band, he fit right in and we began to work on new material.

During the summer of 2007 we demoed songs in the down time between planning our wedding and fixing up our new home. We (Ben and Melanie) were married on August 4, 2007. With our busy summer slowly ending we began to focus on Mild Winter again.

Fall of 2007 we started working on our first full length, A Wanderer’s Home; we set out to make a solid sounding album that also reflected how our songs sound live. We recorded the core of each song live, and then overdubbed vocals and a few other essentials, creating the prefect balance of raw but well produced tracks.

A Wanderer’s Home was released in February of 2008; it is packaged in a hand screen printed chipboard case and includes an insert and a 16 page booklet featuring artwork by Michael Estes (www.flickr.com/greekpunk).

"What makes them a bit more special than the typical singer/songwriter types is the rustic feel of the instrumentation. Rather than doubling or even tripling up on the acoustic six string, Mild Winter employs banjo, fiddle, acoustic six string, & a small trap kit to accompany the vocal. What results is a beautiful mix of back porch songs about drinking, loving, leaving, & praying." - N/A Magazine Winter 2008

REVIEWS

You know how some music grows on you and then you can't get it out of your head? That's how every song on "A Wanderer's Home" is. For weeks I've been haunted by track after track. Their combination of violin/mandolin/banjo, guitar, rhythm, and close harmonies, often with a descant, is mesmerizing. This collection gets five stars!
