Miles Helm: Scared Old Planet
Preceded by the modern and classic rock styling of Miles Helm’s debut album, Brave New World, Scared Old Planet introduces a sound all its own with a combination of heavy dance grooves, dark chordal modes, industrial techno and rock instrumentation with modern low end.
Also featured is a mixture of live and sequenced rhythms, with melodic guitar, keyboard, and vocal orchestrations.
Scared Old Planet is a musical adventure into the mindset of the twenty-first century human. Throughout history, fear, sensuality, and deception have been instrumental tools humans use to control or manipulate one another. Examples range from the lyrics of a simple nursery rhyme to public hangings, home alarm systems, concealed weapons, and world war
This place we call Earth has certainly become a Scared Old Planet!
Although the concept sounds to be one of doom and gloom, the lyrical content and spiritual message is one of hopefulness for the future, and possible alternatives to this present way of life.
With this concept CD, Miles Helm has aspirations of performing a theater stage production of this work using a combination of live band performance, actors, and theater production sets.

Excellent album!! I'm a huge fan of rock/progressive music, and this is a definite work of art! Being a professional musician myself, I really enjoyed the music, lyrics, and story concept. Vocals are truly outstanding, as is the performance of every other musician on the album.
Once again, really great story line!
This is a must have for every fan of rock/prog rock, or any lover of music!

A truly great album. If eclectic were a term used in music, it would be this al

Sorry, i just can't keep this one short.
2. What a great way to start an album. Has a really great dark feel. And the circus music feel of the keyboards is wonderful!! I know, dark and circus in the same song, but it works!! And then out of nowhere is this 80’s rap beat, with a killer bass line behind it. I must say, the singing on this song is probably the best on the album, and that’s saying a lot.
3. A great, creepy take on nursery rhymes. I love it!! The keyboards and whispered vocals are truly haunting.
4. Harmonica!! It just keeps getting better!! Another great little piano part. Man, does this song remind me of the 80’s. I was pretty young in the eighties, but I will never forget the music.
5. The beginning of this one made me think of Sting a little, (the good sting stuff). Very moody, this one is.
6. Back to the more up-tempo stuff. Great mix between songs. And the Indian sounding guitar riff is cool. Great vocal harmonies. This song brings to mind so many other things I’ve heard, but I just can’t put my finger on it.
7. This sounds a lot like the kind of rock I grew up listening to in the early 90’s.
8. Man, this guy has got some great range with his vocals. I only wish I could sing that high. Another really dark song. For some very odd reason, King Diamond just popped into my head.
9. I love that dreamy stuff, the kind of Pink Floydish stuff. Maybe even a little ELP.
10. Again, this really reminds me of some of the early 90’s rock. The good part of the early 90’s rock stuff. It sounds like they really let go on this track and have some fun. It’s great to hear that in music.
11. Kick back with a glass full of somethin’ strong, close your eyes, and relax. Another great track. Towards the end of this track, in the background, I thought I heard the music from one of my old NES games!!
12. I actually owned a few rap album in the 80’s that sounded a lot like the music on this one. Not the vocals, obviously. I really like the vocals on this track too, great range and harmonies.
13. Yes, I forgot about this song!! This one is super funky, bluesy rock. I love it!!!!
14. A great way to end a great album. That last one rocked.
Overall: This is truly a great project. The quality of the sound is top notch, the vocals are great, and the playing is near perfect. If the word eclectic ever applied to a CD, this would be the one. A truley wonderful album from start the finish. T.J.
