notes
Miles to dayton is:
Krista March - the voice
Jon Preddice - guitar, vocals, cello
David March - bass guitar, vocals, guitar
Rob Caniglia - percussion
Born out of the ashes of romantic tragedy, this Long Island based trio first began performing at local open mic nights in the fall of 2003. With a natural ability for harmony and song, the talented brother sister duo of Dave and Krista March, along with musical journeyman Jon Preddice, combine to bring a refreshing sound to each performance. After adding upbeat drummer Rob Caniglia to the mix, the balance of energy was complete, creating an ensemble with quality musicianship to back up their soulful and interweaving vocal melody lines. This unique band uses a mixture of folk, rock, and classical style to create a unique voice, not often heard in the Long Island music scene. Band members often switch instruments within a set, relying on their multiple talents to maintain a creative performance atmosphere. Miles to Dayton seems poised for greatness in the near future. Check out their debut full length album, "A long way back', an independent release that is just the beginning of this band's musical journey.
Song quotes:
"Love is a stranger to the foolish, Love is unkind"
"I recall the time when we were holding on for something more,
Life was just a story we read, yet we could not control"
Review from indieville.com: A.J. Gregory
Miles to Dayton's first full-length effort is a solid collection of quiet, dreamy tunes. Almost every track here is chock-full of clever harmonies and labyrinthine melodies that warrant repeat listens. Krista March - unassumingly listed as "the voice" in the liner notes - has some sweet pipes that suit the M2D sound to a tee, while guitarist and chief songwriter Jon Preddice enlists a small army of instrumentalists to provide spot contributions. Because the majority of the songs on A Long Way Back are lovelorn ballads, the album's vibe can get a bit samey at times, so the increased depth of the band's musical arsenal is welcome.
Preddice himself provides some of the most memorable touches with impeccably-timed cello licks that punctuate the album's climactic moments. He delivers some giant solos, most notably on "Your Love" and "Dayton," two tunes that don't stray far from the M2D formula. There are some notable exceptions - the up-tempo opener, "Hero For Another Day," shows that these guys can play the indie pop game, while straight-up rocker "Therapy" and epic highlight "Green Light Go" see the band reach for the amplifiers to add some punch to its sound - but rootsy ballads remain Miles to Dayton's bread and butter. "We'll all be fine, for we all have a place and time," March warbles in the triumphant final chorus of "Letter to You and Me," encapsulating the album's message in one subdued rallying cry. You tell 'em.

author: Bobushka the GreatMiles to Dayton's debut CD doesn't sound like your average debut as these talented musicians blend heartfelt lyrics, luscious harmonies, and fine-tuned instrumentation for 12 solid tracks. I love me some tasty cello licks.
VERY impressive debut album, beautiful harmonies, thoughful lyrics, soothing sou
author: MarkThis is an amzing effort for a debut album. Twelve unique sounding songs, with unique, and yet somehow familiar sounds. The album is highlighted by a few 'rock' songs but this is definitely a more soulful thought provoking record. Krista's voice is haunting, accompanied by Dave March's virtuoso bass performance and Jon's guitar and cello work is simply put - amazing. This is an album to listen with the one you love, or to remind you of he one you used to love. I only hope it won't take M2D a long way to get back to the studio for their second album!
ONE OF A KIND
