Album Notes

I. catacombs - II. CONFESSIONALS* - III. cathedrals

No more classic grandiose.
No more lush cinematic production.
Not a single note played that didn't absolutely have to be there.

Millbrook's new objective for Confessionals, the 2nd epistle in a trilogy of EP's: to find the profound in the simple...to make the familiar exotic and the arcane instantly accessible... to say very much with very little...to begin in the everyday and end in the infinite.

Confessionals is the day after the devastation, the settling of the dust, the search for survivors, the plans to rebuild, the shaky-legged, bittersweet return of sentiment to trembling lips. If Millbrook music has been everything but the kitchen sink up to this point, then this collection of songs is just the kitchen sink alone. Organic. Acoustic. Intrinsic.

Confessionals has a flavor that's very distinct from Catacombs and Cathedrals, the other two sister works in the trilogy. It's a essentially a collection of very humble songs about the ones you love - your loves that are present as well as your loves that are absent. This here is the fine line between heartache & heart break.

Similar to Iron and Wine & Elliott Smith in delivery, Millbrook proves to you and themselves that at the nucleus, under all the orchestral frills and piano trills, that good solid songs do indeed exist. If you're already acquainted with the music of Millbrook, then this EP will be quite a 180 degree turn from what you may expect. If you've never been introduced the music, then this small & affordable EP is a good accessible introduction to see humble concrete foundation on which lavish & tawdry sonic buildings are erected. Familiar now or not, it's certain that you & Millbrook will be close friends after these songs break the ice and you find that this was exactly what you wanted to say...that the words were on the tip of your tongue...that these songs were the just the songs you were about to write yourself.
