Album Notes

Naomi Morse and Elvie Miller are part of the contra dance band Night Watch, now at the forefront of the new generation of dance bands. With Night Watch and other bands, they perform regularily for contra and English Country dances throughout the U.S. and the UK. Naomi Morse, a native of Vermont, grew up contradancing in New England, and is known for her energetic and driving fiddle playing. Elvie Miller has been surrounded by folk and classical music since childhood, and adds driving rhythm on piano and accordion. The band works together to provide dancers with a diverse, energizing sound.

Grapevine is the product of a collaboration between Naomi, Elvie and four guest musicians. Naomi and Elvie's families have known each other and shared music and dancing since before they were born. They have shared diverse musical experiences, including playing chamber music together and singing in folk choruses and early music ensembles together. They were inspired to make this recording by requests and pleas from excited dancers.

Lovely album, showing how talented Elvie and friends are at quite an early age.

How wonderful to discover such a lively, groovy example of traditional music so far away from Old Europe! I particularly like the blend of unusual combinations of piano, mandolin, accordion and fiddle (!!)
