Album Notes

The Mills Family Band evolved from a series of very fortunate accidents. Much like when someone walks in a record store, hears an unfamiliar ditty blasting from the speakers, asks the store clerk who the artist is, and buys the record right away... You never know what you’ll happen upon when you take a chance!
After playing locally for several years, both together and with various groups around Richmond VA, siblings Allyson and Curtis Mills, along with mandolin player Chris Hale, thought they might be on to something when they began blending the sounds of old time, bluegrass and folk with jazz and soul. The acoustic nature of the trio made for an eclectic sound. When saxophone player Samson Trinh began sitting in from time to time, the feeling of anticipation only grew.

Samson received a phone call from friend and singer/songwriter, Nellie Mckay in October 2007, needing an opener for her December 20th show at The Rams Head Tavern in Annapolis, MD. He figured this would be the time to take a chance and decided the eclectic quartet needed to hit the road. He also recruited upright bassist, Matt Harris and drummer, Andy Brockmann. The band rehearsed for two and half weeks and penned themselves The Mills Family Band. They took another chance by recording their opening set at the Rams Head, resulting in their first album, "Live at the Rams Head Tavern" !

The members of The Mills Family Band bring many genres to the table, and they find no musical avenue to be off limits!
