Rootsy bluesy folk music of an original New York singer-songwriter.

notes

Milton's songs paint vivid moving pictures of American life using elements of country, blues, folk, rock and jazz music. And while the melodies of his compositions are adeptly constructed, the individual character of his singing voice and the distictive idiom of his lyrics take Milton's music into truly original territory. When he sings his songs on stage, Milt the composer becomes Milt the performer. The warmth and spontaneity of his live act further confirm his stature on the contemporary scene.

I loved the new, fresh lyrics with great music that really flowed and great rythmn. It is pleasure to listen to great music with intelligent lyrics. My favorite songs:In the City, The Singer, This is the Town and Let you In.

Milton is just plain refreshing. Strong grooves, great lyrics and exceptional phrasing. One of my favorite albums of this last year or so. "City" and "Up and Down the River" are favorites.

  • Excellent

I think this is an improvement upon Milton's previous endeavors and I loved his previous endeavors. While I'm not quite ready to rank Milton up there with the poet whose name he may or may not have used for his own, the new Milton, like the old Milton, knows what he wants to write about. The old Milton claims God was telling him what to write. The new Milton lets the city tell him what to write. He's honest without being tacky and I dig it. His scenes of contemporary urban life are certainly a Paradise Lost, but he revels in it and loves every minute of it.

  • Great Stuff

Read the small review in menshealth, got online and listened to one song and ordered it right away. I've been playing it now for 4 days non-stop, in my office, in my car and at home. I called my daughter in college to turn her on to it, so expect some orders from the University of Florida. GREAT STUFF!!

  • Fresh and original music with super melodies and tunes!
    author: E. Griffin

Full of great tunes, Milton is a refreshinjg blend of pop, folk, and maybe even some light touches of jazz. Great road trip tunes or just listening to on repeat at home.

  • It only took one listen - excellent!

I too discovered Milton via the very short write up in Men's Health. It only took one listen to the via the CD Baby website to "Scenes from the Interior Part One" and I was hooked. I order the CD right away. CD Baby quickly got me the CD... Thanks. The real test of how great Milton's music is came later that week when I had a small party at my place. The iPod was playing a mix of songs in the background... then "In the City" came on. I noticed my friends just pause. All conversation stopped. They could tell I'd found a musical jewel. I was asked to disconnect the iPod and put the full CD on - we just sat back on a cool spring evening in the midwest just listening. It was a perfect night thanks to Milton's music. It's been weeks since the party - Milton is still in the CD player. The songs just get better with each listen. "Rain-Sun" is one that I could listen to over and over again... Now I look forward to the next release from Milton. PS: an often overlooked part of CDs now is the packaging. Milton's CD case "artwork" is one of the most original - the case looks so good just sitting next to the CD player.

One awesome song after the other. I listen to it over and over and over and never get sick of it. I had a small gathering on a Friday night and played this cd in the background. Everyone asked about it and insisted that we play it again and again. We did. Soulful, sensitive, logical, meaningful and fun stuff.

  • thumbs up for Milton

I, too, heard of Milton and this CD from an article in Men's Health magazine. You'll have to ask Milton if the health/muscle consumed demographic is who he targeted...Anyway, I like the record; I sort of get a John Prine vibe from Milton's songwriting, and voice. And I know he'll take that as a compliment.

  • Americana Traveler by way the lyrics.

You just never know where you will find the next Boy Wonder! Men's Health of all places. Just as advertised, kick back with a glass of wine and follow Milton's journey through Americana. His mellow vocals are a quick reminder of John Maier, but he quickly surpasses all others with his graphic pictures through his lyrics. Great CD.

  • I enjoyed Milton cd . looking forward to the next one

  • Very Good CD

After reading an article in Men's Health and listening to it on CDBaby, I decided to buy it. Great music! I put it on at work and listened to it for hours. Not a bad song on there. Love the references to good old red-blooded American culture. Good stuff.

  • This CD hasn't left my stereo

Thanks to a review in Men's Health magazine I am now a HUGE Milton fan! I was skeptical at first, but after visiting the Milton website and downloading 4 absolutely GREAT songs for FREE I felt the least I could do would be to order the CD and pray the rest of the songs were just as good. I was not dissapointed. This CD is one fantastic song after the other. I've yet to find any other artist that can paint a verbal picture as vivid as Milton can! Milton will eventually shove Ryan Adams, Jason Mraz and John Mayer out of the limelight and take the singer/songwriter crown. Milton is our generation's James Taylor, Bob Dylan and John Lennon all rolled into one. Thank you Men's Health...and thank you CD Baby for leading me to MILTON!!!

Like some others here, I heard about the CD in a short magazine write up, and was interested enough to track it down. This is an awesome CD, I can't believe this hasn't been getting more play and great reviews. I've shared it with some friends already, and they've all become instant fans.

  • one of the best new lyricists out there
author: Phat Frankie's Meow: A Journal Without Culture and Ideas

i would rank this guy at his best with the greats--dylan, cohen, waits etc. he manages to combine humor, pathos, passion and kick ass song writing. he also captures a particular era for those of us who grew up in the 80s and 90s. the tunes are readily accessible yet they bear scrutiny. one of the best out there. thank god for milton!!

  • Instantly in my top 10 list!

    author: Michael

This is a great CD. I bought on the advice of a review in a magazine and just a few samples of the song on Milton's web site. I love the song 'In the City" I like to consider myself a lyric guy and Milton writes great lyrics......... It has open my eyes to music that is on small lables like this. I can only hope there is more good music out there for me to discover

  • looking forward to more

This guy is terrific and I look forward to hearing what he does next. Not a bad piece on the disc. Now trying to find him to hear live.

  • Well worth the effort!!!
    author: John

Well woth the effort of tracking this disk down. I heard In the City on the radio and fell in love with the song. Was'nt sure if it was gonna be a one hit thing or not but rest assured it's not.The whole disk is wonderfull, full of alot of different tastes and all of them good. From slow tempo to foot tapping to full dance party with my two year old daugher. If your tired of the same old radio thing , give it a try you won't be dissapointed.

Milton moves me. There's something in his voice, his breathy whispers, his storytelling...it makes me warm. His songs are perfect portraits of what I imagine is a second's glance into the thoughts of America...not the brazen Liberty plastered on flags and bumpers...but the America who wanders late nights through hometowns, sighing with her occupants who twitch with dreams of art and the reality of work. Milton sings with an age and understanding that surpasses his years. Buy this album and take it on a long road trip.

  • Refreshingly fun and different - great guitar and lyrics!
    author: Rachel

LOVE this CD. The guitar, the melodys, and the lyrics are great. I listen to "In the City" over and over again. It makes me happy and upbeat. His work reminds me of David Mead and Jack Johnson.

  • so nice to hear something new and amazing!
    author: staci

I dont often like to admit my mom is right, but this time, she hit it just perfectly. Her recommendation of Milton was dead on. Finally, something new and not plain old ordinary recycled "classic" rock. This CD is a joy to listen to. I love it. It is the first CD I have bought in ages that I actually took out of the case. Usually by the time I buy one I am so sick of the music that I don't want to hear it any more! Not with this one! If only Milton was the programmer at a local radio station...

  • Milton is swift with the lyric and sweet on the guitar.
    author: Richard Negri

Yep, I got my Milton CD in the mail today – and wow! His disk arrived at the perfect time. Too many of us have been sitting around rewinding music made before we were born because nothing today speaks to our souls, and that ain’t cool. Milton is swift and quick with the lyric and the perfect strumming guitar. You listen to Milton and you hear that he’s been listening to a lot of music for a lot of years … and he is pulling and culling a style from the best of them all. I was trying to explain to a friend what I thought of the disk – and I said, “It is like mixing really nice poetry from the road with the sound of America.” And when Dylan’s name came up, then Tom Petty’s, then SunVolt, and even the pop sensationalism of Hootie and the Blowfish – I said, “yea … but … no … this guy is better, different, sensible, logical …” The truth of the matter is that I am convinced that Milton is singing from the heart and the soul at the same time … and that is more than a lot of artists I hear these days. The one thing that I thought about while listening to his disk that stood out amongst everything else was that I would love to see him perform live. I have this gut feeling that his energy matches the intensity of the songs on the disk. I look forward to that happening sooner than later. I will close with this: Milton is the real deal singer/songwriter who says what he feels and feels what he says … in other words, what a breath of fresh air.
