Album Notes

In a time of formula-rock bands and one-hit wonders that pollute the airwaves with music that is both uninteresting and devoid of substance, Western Pennsylvania's Mind's I has emerged as an innovative force poised to re-engineer what many consider to be the dying alternative / modern rock genre.

Mind's I has cultivated a loyal fan base across the Northeast United States through the members' critically-acclaimed musical prowess, the band's highly energetic and entertaining live performances, and above all the memorable, timeless music of the four-member songwriting team which includes the dual singer-songwriter combination of Tom Panei and Greg Muiter.

After finishing third out of over 200 entrants in the most respected regional "battle-of-the-bands" - the Graffiti Rock Challenge (based in Pittsburgh, PA), Mind's I went on to log thousands of tour miles in 1999, making stops as far East as Atlantic City, NJ and as far West as Chicago, Illinois. Mind's I continues to gain support and enthusiastic fans wherever their music is heard.

While individual songs in the band's repertoire have elicited comparisons to bands like The Barenaked Ladies, LIVE, Dave Matthews Band, and Dire Straits, Mind's I remains a band in a category of its own - fusing elements of jazz, folk, and blues into truly unique compositions. The music of Mind's I transcends the trappings of modern pop music, and is readily embraced by people of any demographic.

Among the best independently released CDs of 2000!
author: Trogg Silverstein
Absolutely one of the best indie CDs of 2000. Fans of great blues guitar as well as disciples of modern rock music will be equally delighted with Mighty Shoves and Tiny Pushes, the second full-length effort from Butler, Pennsylvania's Mind's I. Recorded at The Audio Loft in Ambridge, Mighty Shoves builds on the jazz-infused acoustic-pop sensibilities of the band's 1998 debut (Where The Secret Lies; AFM Records, Inc.), but introduces a much more driving sound on this project. Much of this new emphasis on the guitar prowess of Duquesne University graduate Greg Muiter is thanks in large measure to the on-boarding of Buzzy Beck as engineer and co-producer. Beck's work has gained wide acclaim recently, having been featured on several regional releases including compilations released by Pittsburgh modern rock station 105.9 FM - The X. With Mighty Shoves, one hears equal parts Cake and Foo Fighters in the music; from the hit-the-ground-running opening track Everyday to funky horns and keyboards in Not To Blame. Another noteworthy item is the fact that, unlike on the debut CD, lead vocal responsibilities are shared between Muiter and Tom Panei, which makes the album feel a bit more like a mix tape than an album - but sometimes the benefits of variety surpass those of theme. In summary; Mighty Shoves and Tiny Pushes is a fantastic CD with amazingly crafted songs performed by a terrific band. Visit the band at http://www.mindsi.com.
