"If what James Brown supposedly said was true-"the one thing that can solve most of our problems is dancing"-then Mingo Fishtrap has plenty of business to take care of in our nation's capital." -Zoe Polluck, Washington City Paper
Austin-based soul & funk outfit, Mingo Fishtrap, has released EP3.
This follow-up to the 2005 release, Yesterday, marks a refinement of form forthe band; delving deeper into the sound of Stax, Motown and Chess that
inspired the band's inception over a decade ago. The five tracks pave the
way for Mingo's next full-length CD, due the first quarter of 2009.
Mingo Fishtrap was formed in the mid-90s at the University of North Texas'
prestigious College of Music. EP3 is the band's fifth CD release. Most
recently, the band had released Mingo Fishtrap: Live at the Granada, a live
performance DVD available on Manor Productions.
The release of EP3 coincided with a summer U.S. tour in 2008. The band brought its high-energy live show to venues across the country kicking it off with a headlining performance for over 8000 fans at the Sweet Pea Festival in Bozeman, MT. As an actively touring, independent artist, Mingo Fishtrap has enjoyed documented airplay in over 40 U.S. markets, and several international markets (France, Great Britain, Germany, Netherlands, Sweden, Switzerland, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Hong Kong and New Zealand).

Without a doubt, this is the greatest album of 5 songs I have ever purchased! The three new tunes are amazing! The vocal artistry, clever lyrics, and intricate instrumental grooves, make this one of the best albums ever made. I am anxiously awaiting the next release!

Found that right groove

Having known these guys since college, I can tell you they keep getting better and better. The versions of My Yesterday and On Our Way surprised me because I found I liked the acoustic versions better than the full studio recordings on the album "Yesterday". I guess when something's pretty good, different changes make something even better. But the best track on here is Without Question; it's got that Stax Wax love that very few are bringing back to music. More importantly, the live blues track, "Jangle When I Walk" is a brilliant piece of easy blues that will easily keep Austinites from forgetting that the Fishtrap boys can hold their own anywhere. These guys were part of the soundtrack to college days, and the music keeps me smiling. Here's to many more years of hearing Mingo!
