The ten composers represented in this recording take us on a journey through centuries and across cultures from the old world to the new.
Spanish guitar music, Flamenco flair, Latin American tango and exquisitely simple folk songs are all played with brilliance, but above all, with evocative emotion. Always lyrical and immediately engaging, the album contains a beautiful blend of styles. The warmth of Schubert lieder is also found in the Bach Andante and Morricone songs. Sheer virtuosity drives the Vivaldi Allegro and Ibert Entr'acte. The Songs and Dances from the New Village provide a totally different ancient eastern soundscape, with amazing new effects and whirling rhythms. Relax to the mellow Di Marino Suite. Music is a journey of the heart.
On the first five tracks Minh plays a copy of an nineteenth century Stauffer guitar, crafted in 2010 by the Melbourne based luthier, Ian Watchorn. Smaller and lighter in tone than the modern guitar, this instrument has an unexpectedly strong resonance suggestive of the forte piano’s unique qualities.
