Album Notes

Miriam Allen's music is unabashedly street wise and intellectual at the same time. Allen lived in South America for two years and spent time in Cuba where she performed and studied music. She still frequents Mexico where she holds public performances. She also studied classical composition under Paul Elwood at Brevard College in NC but mostly learned as a venue and street performer in Latin America and the US. Though her grass roots are essentially South Carolinian where she grew up, her musical performances now fuse sounds of the deep south with bits and pieces of Latin America. Miriam plays classical and acoustic guitars, violin, and sings. Her song writing and performing are as nonconformist as the artist herself and original to the point that each record plays out as though it were actually a compilation of various artists. LA CAPITANA is a worldly compilation that embodies the powerful emotions of vulnerability and confidence simultaneously as it travels over the seas and through the heart of the western hemisphere.
