Not Coming Home
...A song inspired by an illegal war and a dream
Not Coming Home is a song that came to me in a dream one night not long ago. In this dream, the voice of a woman soldier told me the details of her story as she currently lives it in Iraq. I documented her story in the lyrics of this song. The melody in my dream was haunting - it is the melody in the song. Not Coming Home is the story is of one woman, but it affects us all. This is her story:
Not Coming Home
copyright 2007 M German, Buckin Saviour Publishing, BMI
The hills are all dusty
The landscape is gray
The bombs are like drumbeats marching me to my grave
Don't know if I'm a spirit
Or been laid to rest
But this place aint restful
I don't want to be dead
I can hear Celia, my sweet little girl
Crying for momma to come home
But I'm not coming home,
Not coming home,
Not coming home
I have seen bloodshed and true compromise
I have seen evil,
Heard so many lies
There's no US flag here,
No liberty bell
Just people killing people
It's a vision of hell
I can see my lover,
My very best friend,
Calling me back to our bed
And I can hear Celia, my sweet little girl,
Crying for momma to come
But I'm not coming home
Not coming home
Not coming home.
A close friend and vocalist in Portland suggested that I produce Not Coming Home with a sound as raw as the story is haunting and present it to the Peace movement as an anthem to promote an end to the Iraq War. This is what I have done. I bring it to you.
We need to understand Peace as a basic human right. I hope this song inspires you to speak up, to stand up, and to create a pathway for Peace.
