The thriving local music scene in Houghton (1994-1997) centered around Bernie Larson and Emily Smith, the SubUrban Exchange (1994-1999) [later reopened by Larson as ExUrban (2003-Present)], Motherload Coffee House (2001-2005), and the local zine Spam.
