Mistaken Identity Biography

Mistaken Identity is four unique, equally talented individuals brought together not only by their common location of Rockford, Illinois, but by their passion for music. Comprised of emcee Ed Harrington (Tha E.D.), R&B vocalists Darius Lewis and Brian Norris, and beatmaker/producer Chris McGill (Soleternity), Mistaken Identity have certainly distinguished themselves with their unique sound and diverse background.
Darius and Brian, once integral members of the hit local R&B group "Celsius," contribute soulfully raw vocals to the group. Their ability to craft enticing R&B melodies to Hip Hop beats distinguishes them from the rest of the R&B market. Experience in the dance and performance venue has served the group well.
Veteran emcee Tha E.D. brings intelligent but universally appealing Hip Hop, and has opening performances for Ice Cube and other notables to his name. As the professionalism of his music reveals, Tha E.D. has been performing and recording Hip Hop for over ten years.
Behind the boards is 17 year old beatmaker/producer Soleternity, who many already recognize from 105.9 WKPO Friday nights, or were one of his 1,500,000 listeners on his mp3.com web page. Recognized for his creative and inspired fusion of R&B and Hip Hop, Sol's music and persona have set him apart from competing producers. Ambition and uniqueness have driven this prodigy to greater accomplishments in 3 years of producing than many musicians achieve in a lifetime, including the production credit on "Sleep with an AK," a Young Buck (G-Unit) track on Dj Whoo Kid's S.W.A.T. mixtape.
But more intriguing than any of their individual accomplishments, the group boasts incredible chemistry and work ethic despite having functioned as a unit since only May of 2003. Their debut album, "Beautifully Absurd,"is a testament to the group's motivation and raw ability to make great music.

A Excellent Album from a Ill Ass Group

Wow, what can I Say" Sol comes through with production, and the mix of songs on this cd are great. It can go from Rapping, to a Singin track and still make the cd flow together. The MC's bring ill rhymes on the flows, including Sol who is double threat. This CD is def worth the 10 bucks people, you wont be dissapointed. please believe, and sigh Soleternity and the Group!!!!! pz out

"Mistaken Identity has created a surprisingly solid debut album"
author: Tim Toules
MISTAKEN IDENTITY "Beautifully Absurd" LP, 2004 "You're about to experience real music...." These words have been spoken by countless emcees since the beginning of hip hop, as sort of a defense mechanism toward those that are critical of hip hop actually being music in the first place. That being said, those who are hardcore fans of the art are automatically a bit skeptical when hearing this statement, having heard it so many times attached to albums that don't deliver on that promise. Well, that's the first thing you hear on this full-length debut from Rockford, Illinois hip hop quartet Mistaken Identity, which is sure to raise a skeptic's eyebrows with its 30-second introduction; but the eye-rolling soon turns to jaw-dropping when the beat drops for "Revolution", a track addressing the state of the game nowadays, with its major-label assembly line of cookie-cutter emcees and just-add-water gangsta images. Tha E.D. kicks it off with a energetic barrage ("i walk through the hood barefoot like Tarzan/descendant of Shaka Zulu African American black man/very proud of that I am in this land of Republicans/where the rich get rich and the poor don't get s**t") that sets the tone for the rest of the album. Produced solely (no pun intended) by Mp3.com veteran Soleternity, "Beautifully Absurd" is a mix of socially conscious head-nodders and low-riding bangers that could just as easily be absorbed in a smoke-filled coffeehouse as it could in any club setting; but don't get it twisted, there is no getting "tipsy" on this record, as it is more like a smooth pull of chronic than a Cristal-guzzling fiesta. That isn't to say that M.I. can't get gully, with the bouncy piano-driven "Tonight's the Night" with it's "The Light"-esque vocal samples and exhortations for the throwback-wearing contingent to stop "acting like you don't dance". Where M.I. shines the brightest are on tracks like the aforementioned "Revolution" and "Found Myself", a gritty reflection of the life of the young-and-hungry over an urgent, yet soulful sample-driven instrumental. "Travelin'" is another smooth ride, with Darius, Tha E.D. and Sole himself continuing to walk the path of self-exploration over a beat reminiscent of DJ Premier in his prime. Just about the time where one might get lost in the shuffle of introspective joints, you get thrown into the arena with "Mink Oil", a track where Darius and Tha E.D trade lyrical blows over a minimalist beat that unexpectedly evolves around the three-minute juncture, with sick results. The album comes to a close with the title-track "Beautifully Absurd", a breezy track that finds M.I. lamenting the ways of the industry while at the same time introducing themselves to it, wrapping things up nicely. Of course, as with any debut album (with the exception of "Illmatic") there are bound to be mis-steps along the way, one of these on "Beautifully Absurd" being the abundance of R&B songs, while themselves written well, lack the powerhouse chops needed to propel the ideas over Soleternity's lush, organic beats. That isn't the case for every song however (the double-time paced "Curiosity" pulls it off, as well as the sweet ode "It's Alright"), the hooks on this album are put together well and as 50 Cent has shown us 8 million-and-counting times over, you needn't have R Kelly's voice to sing a dope chorus. Minor detractions aside, when the vocals falter, the production keeps the album moving like spinners at a stoplight. With "Beautifully Absurd", Mistaken Identity has created a surprisingly solid debut album, and in this reviewer's eyes, the idea that they would not at some point enjoy the success they are striving for with this LP is, well, absurd. for more info, check out www.mistakenidentitymusic.com

"if you bought the album, you are going to be blown away"
author: Charley Brown
Just got my copy today from my ninja soleternity...and if you bought the album, you are going to be blown away, regardless of expectations, and if u haven't bought the album, scrap up $10 and do yourself the favor and cop it. support real hip hop...Here's a brief review of the album: 1) Introduction - E.D. freestylin'/spittin' over some beatbox shit...sets off the album nicely...quality is on point, beatbox shit is nice...'nuff said bout this 2) Revolution - best track on the album imo overall...E.D. spits first, Darius is 2nd, and Soleternity rhymes third...the beat is premo-esque...drums hit hard...Darius has a sick voice...Soleternity has the best verse on the track...this beat is probably the best I've heard anywhere in a few years. Incredibly sampled hook. 5/5. This will be on repeat, gauranteed. 3) Hate In Your Eyes - the first track highlighting the r-n-b aspects of this group...Darius is type nice with the vocals...really what makes him stand out is his imperfections...he's no Luther, but he plays his role perfectly and blends incredibly well with the group. This beat is another banger...on some undergound chill type shit...sick horns. Works nicely coming after Revolution...skit at the end is gutta...4.5/5 4) Can You Handle Me - M.I. flexes their versatility here. Opens up with an r-n-b vibe/rap flow...beat is on point, only thing I'm not entirely feeling is the vocoding used on the vocals at points in the hook, but its growing on me (my 3rd listen so far)...the vibe of the verse supplementing another incredibly solid beat is what makes this track. The bridge is also very sick...hook is real catchy but very not corny...4.5/5 5) Curiousity - The second of two "first" singles...sol hit me with this track after he got the masters in, and I've been bumpin' it since. Darius shines on this track, E.D. graces it with a sick verse. Beat is very appropriate...the structure of this song kills it, and shows what separates M.I. from any other group. Masterfully done... 5/5 6) Tonight's The Night - Crazy ass sample that at times may be a little overpowering, but Darius and E.D. come sick over this, hook is hot...the r-n-b change-up is ill...again the structuring of this track is sick...taking the typical hip hop format, and building on it to bring the sickness. Skit is str8...4.25/5 7) Found Myself - I think we've all heard this...if u haven't, peep the soundclick site. 5/5 8) Trying to Survive - I heard the unmastered version of this track a while back. Sol sings the hook...Darius opens this up beautifully..again another song with strong lasting power...I was hoping this would be included on the release...the song structure again is sick...E.D. again comes proper with his verse. 5/5 9) Travelin' - this beat is absolutely bananas...Darius opens this up with a brilliant rhyme...E.D. opens this up and seriously reminds me of Killer Mike voice wise, sick verse, same goes for Soleternity...the song closes with a display of cutting...type ill song here..5/5 the second half of the CD is even better...I will try and drop the rest of a review tonight...but on the real, this CD is without a doubt a top 3 candidate, fuck it, candidate for best CD out this year thus far...

Definitely a must buy .

Beautifully absurd is one of the best CD's out this year. The production is really sick. Soleternity is amazing with the beats. The MC's are what really stand out. I have been waiting for someone to drop some real Hip Hop for a while and Mistaken Identity has done just that. The groups ability to change from rapping to singing is amazing also. I do think that they should have done some more singing because the singers voice is very distinctive. All in all Mistaken Identity is a group with a very bright future and Beautifully Absurd is a must buy.
