Vancouver keyboardist/ songwriter, Mistress Jen is well-known for steady left-hand bass lines, simple catchy right-hand harmonies and "an organ that's sometimes rollicking, sometimes calliope like, and sometimes sticks to tasteful repetitive arpeggios." -(Janis McKenzie, Discorder). Her refreshingly uncensored lyrics range from funny to frightening.
On Buzz, her latest recording, she is joined by her crack band, which includes Adam Drake (Powder Blues Band, Holly McNarland), Joe Mavety (Marianne Faithfull), Chris Houston (Forgotten Rebels) and Bazil Donovan (Blue Rodeo). After a successful Release at the Railway Club on April 27, 2004, the new CD is showing up on campus and community radio charts across Canada. The CD is available from independent record stores, the web and merch. Mistress Jen's website, mistressjen.com is up to date with current info, gigs and events, mp3s, hi-rez promo photos, and more.
Playing piano since age 6, classically trained, writing original songs since age 13, and playing live shows since early 2000. In Feb 2002, Jen released her first record (Naked Organ) joined only by her organ, a jewel-encrusted, metallic purple Yamaha. Mistress Jen is gaining recognition and her performances have been well-received for her amusing lyrics and energetic performance while playing keyboard and singing at the same time.
