Album Notes

MiXed Company All of the Above (remastered) is a covers album. It is an introspective collection of hymns, spirituals, gospel songs, and sacred songs. But, with the exception of Charles Ives\' Serenity, none of the songs are performed in the genre they were originally performed in. Amazing Grace is now a sax/vocal meditative blues duet. Wade in the Water is a hip hop/gospel/jazz piece complete with human beatbox. Eyes on the Prize becomes a gospel/trip hop piece. Take 6\'s \"Come unto me\" which was an accapella piece becomes a piano/vocal piece. The traditional accapella spiritual \"Steal Away\" is now also a piano/vocal duet with Keith Jarrett like reflection. \"Precious Lord, Take my Hand\" once a gospel song is now an art song. \"On a Clear Day\" still retains each jazzy feel, but is done as a sax/vocal duet. The spiritual \"Ride on King Jesus\" becomes a Contemporary Christian Music tune with a jazz fusion like instrumental section. The gospel classic, \"Goin\' up Yonder\" becomes a brazillian piece not unlike something perhaps Sting might do. \"Whatsoever You Do\", from the catholic church becomes a modern theme and variations piece with elements of a fugue. And then, ends with Charles Ives\' sacred piece Serenity. Though it\'s mostly quiet, I think it\'s compelling, emotional, uplifting, and at times, a little brooding. All vocals on the album are done by my wife, Jessica Rechner I hope you enjoy.
