Album Notes

In Memory of Tommy Duncan

From the album cover: "My thanks go to Merle Haggard, my very kind, loyal and generous friend, for not giving up on this album. After I had my stroke, I thought it had been forgotten. Hag suggested to me a long time ago, 'Why don't you put out an album and dedicate it to the forgotten man, Tommy Duncan, who was my hero?' Here it is and I hope you enjoy it." Billy Mize

Best Billy Mize with Texas Playboys recording Finally available!
author: Out of the Past/Western Swing Monthly
For years this recording was only available direct from Billy(who ran out) and then offered off Merle haggard's web site. I was told by Playboy band members that a vinyl LP was issued also after it's recording in the early 80's. Then Merle added himself for CD release later. One of the Best ever recordings by the original surviving Texas Playboys with superior Billy Mize vocals . Merle plays the role of Bob Wills here hollering and calling out band members names during solos. Wish there were credits listed on insert. A MUST HAVE!

If you like Western Swing you'll love this CD
author: Paul W Dennis
Prior to obtaining this CD, I mostly remembered Billy from some anthologies Capitol issued in the 1960s. None of the cuts on Capitol's LPs were swing. This is SWING at its finest, great songs, great instrumental backings and great vocals. What more could you want ??
