Martin Johnson was born on February 13, 1971 in Des Moines, Iowa to Pastor Andrew Johnson and Missionary Pearl Johnson. Since the womb, the love of music has fulfilled his life. Martin's parents immersed him in the church, whether it was singing the word, directing the choir, or playing one of countless instruments. His God given talents have afforded him exceptionally diverse opportunities in the music industry ranging from his gospel projects to touring with the late rap artist and Ruthless Records founder Eric "Eazy E" Wright.
Years of working and countless performances had built a strong foundation on and off the stage; yet it was not enough. Martin heard a calling in his life which led to a new beginning. As an ordained minister, Martin believes God helps him to preach not only from the pulpit, but to use gospel music to reach out to our youth of today.
His passion for singing, writing, producing and playing an inexhaustible list of instruments captures the hearts, minds, and souls of all those who listen to his intricate arrangements. Martin feels that it is his privilege to be a vessel blessed by God to sing out and rejoice with the joyful, uplift the weary and return the lost.
Martin attributes his talent in music, first and foremost to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, "for without God, I am nothing," says Martin. He names gospel superstars Hattie Moss Clark and the Clark Sisters, Darryl Coley, James Moore and Fred Hammond among his musical influences. Accounting for his rich and diverse musical style, Martin also cites rhythm and blues greats Stevie Wonder, and the Gap Band's Charlie Wilson, as well as the late soul legends Marvin Gaye and Donny Hathaway among his favorites.
Obviously, it is not simply the music that inspires Martin Johnson, it is the message. New life leading to everlasting life. Winning souls into the Kingdom of Heaven is his mission and his motivation. His Testament.
