Album Notes

"Charismatically gifted... his voice is remarkably expressive... Jordan's musical ability is often stunning." - Bernard Baur, Music Connection Magazine

"He's a pro, he can just do *anything*." - Vanessa Carlton on MTV "Duets"

"A welcome addition to the family of piano songsters." - John Ondrasik of Five For Fighting

Drawing upon influences as diverse as the Beatles, Brian Wilson, Billy Joel, Ben Folds, Steely Dan and many others, keyboard player, singer and songwriter Matthew Jordan has woven a sound and style that's uniquely his own. Matthew regularly floors jaded audiences who never expect one who looks so young to possess such enormous "chops," as they say in the biz. His talent hits 'em like a diesel truck goin' ninety. In 2002, Matt joined Tonos.com, the online music community founded by Grammy winners David Foster, Carole Bayer Sager and Babyface. Within just a few months, he had placed in the finals or semi-finals of NINE competitive opportunities including "BEST ROCK KEYBOARDIST" and "BEST AAA SINGER/SONGWRITER." In May 2003, Matthew was featured on MTV "Duets", making the final four (out of over 500 singer-keyboardists nationwide) to find a duet partner for Vanessa Carlton. During the show, he performed his own song "Close", making him one of the rare unsigned artists ever to get exposure on MTV. In December 2003, Matthew was cast as a young pianist in the Five For Fighting video "100 Years," the main role besides that of lead singer, John Ondrasik. In heavy rotation on VH1 and MTV, the video has increased Matt's fanbase exponentially, as many have tracked him down via his website, written fan letters and come to his jam-packed shows at the Hotel Cafe and other LA venues. His role models have broadened over the years, but his mission is still the same: to combine classic songwriting with totally modern grooves and rhythms, all wrapped up in insightful lyrics... with just a little banging on the keys thrown in for good measure.

Incredibly moving. You can't help but listen to it, and just stop and enjoy the entire CD as your brain pretty much runs away for a little while.

A soul searching shared

I recently received “Book of Days” as a gift from a friend. I’d bought “Horizon” previously, and so it was a new experience for me to listen to an indie artist’s debut album after first listening to their sophomore release. I wasn’t sure what to expect. Happily, I can only say that “Book of Days” is a very impressive first effort from Matthew Jordan. It’s a musical synopsis of the whirlwind of emotion and angst that encompass the teen years and ascent into adulthood. Each song is representative of a feeling or experience that for this listener, brought back personal memories that I could relate to the lyrics of the songs without much effort, because they’re so universal. The lyrics speak volumes to capturing the frustration (the driving “Anxiety”) and passion (softly sweet “Mulhulland Drive”) of a time when hormones are working overtime. While the production skills have noticeably improved from the first album to the second, it is definitely a testament to the immense songwriting and performance talent that Matt possesses. It’s a pleasure to be a visitor through listening as Matt progresses in his musicianship…I only wish I could have seen him play some of these songs live, but I’m content knowing I have them on CD, and can listen to them whenever I want, wherever I am. In my opinion, the songs on each of Matt’s two currently released CD’s cover such a range of musical stylings that you’ll be missing out if you don’t own both!

Great Music

This EP really shows how Matthew is making great music. You can see that he has some influences we all know of like Billy Joel and Ben Folds but you can also tell he is putting his own style into it. The piano-rock sound is really coming out. This is way more than a disc with songs put on it. Book of Days is meoldy, rhythm, sound, style, ect. The lyrics are absolute amazing and that shows just how much of a good song-writer he is. He is really going to go far with his music and this EP is the start of it. This EP falls nothing short of amazing.
