Album Notes

MJ rocks! While she truly appreciates all genres of music, her love is Rock-n-Roll. She grew up in the South where the music often takes the form of Boogie Rock. While developing a passion for song-writing, she realized no matter how sensitive the lyrics, she liked a strong back-beat behind them.
MJ is a veteran of independent rock, honing her skills in Austin, TX. during the late 80's and the early 9o's. She has toured and recorded extensively, and she established her own label in 1999, emMaJane Productions.
Her talent is mammoth. Her main writing tool is the piano, but she is accomplished on acoustic and electric guitars as well as organ. MJ's vocals can go from gnarly blues tones to sweet and sensitive in a heartbeat.
Her newest release, HERE TO HERE, captures the power of an MJ live performance while offering up some production gems that make the album shine. It's bluesy and very groovy. And most people - seriously - never play it just once.

REVIEWS

Here to Here has well-written, professionally performed and solidly produced son
author: Scott Prinzing, State of the Arts Newsletter
MJ Torrance's Here to Here should create many opportunities with its well-written, professionally performed and solidly produced songs. In addition to Brad Segal's bass work, drummer John Graham joins Torrance, and the album's recording engineer David Zychek adds a little slide guitar. The star of the show is Torrance, whose acoustic and electric guitar work holds its own beside her mix of piano, organ and clavichord. Her vocal harmonies are one of the freshest aspects of this recording. In contrast to her husky lead vocals, her sweet, bouncy harmonies dominate each of the strongest cuts, "Saturn Child", "Alleyways" and "Lucky Girl". But there are other memorable songs here too. Her "Break-up Song"" is one of the funniest - albeit shortest - songs of its type, clocking in at just 12 seconds. "Lavender Menace" from her second solo effort, Take Me Round, gets the full band treatment this time. Torrance has released another collection of songs bound to satisfy fans while making new ones along the way.

I love this CD! It proves that blues based rock still has unexplored territory
author: August Rutkowski
I love this CD. MJ's subtle combination of blues, funk, folk and southern rock really hits the spot for an old classic rock fan like me looking for something fresh. The song writing is great and the playing is great. I couldn't reccomend it more.
