*** 2006 Armenian Music Awards Nomination -- Best Rock Album ("GOR")

*** 2006 Armenian Music Awards Nomination -- Best Music Video ("Stigma")

Armenian world music artist Gor Mkhitarian plunges headfirst into the genre of mainstream alternative American pop for his eclectic debut eponymous debut, GOR. Having recorded three successful solo albums in his native Armenian tongue, GOR radically switches directions by fusing the ethnic elements of his past with the new Los Angeles multicultural imprint of today by presenting all new works in English. GOR’s new musical creation bears his trademark “everyman” appeal while probing immediate contemporary social issues. GOR also features several guest artists such as oud legend John Berberian (“Middle Eastern Rock”/ Verve Forecast), vocalist Sebu Simonian of Aviatic, and co-producer Erwin Khachikian (Slow Motion Reign/ Serj Tankian) on keyboards in creating a blender of intelligent folk pop music that will remind listeners of a young Peter Gabriel. GOR has the potential to become 2006’s independent musical find of the year with key tracks such as “Breakdown”, “Stigma” and “One Song”.

This package also includes music videos directed by Roger Kupelian (“Lord of the Rings”). For more on GOR, please visit www.gormusic.com

  • Excellent!

Once again, Gor has made a great CD. It was nice to have a CD in english because although I'm Armenian, he speaks a different dialect and so it was hard to understand. Some old songs with a twist- everything was great!

  • Wonderful! Wonderful! And again wonderful!

As every day's prayer ... I need it. As every night's breeze ... I feel it. It give's me the mood to love the life as it is. That's so beautiful: the rythm, the words, the music...

  • tasty lycs and music

One of the best Cd's I have ever heard, It is a little short, but it leaves you wanting more. It's the type of sound you can hear again and again. Gor has a very unique sound and awesome lyrics.

  • Great CD with depth, feeling, poeticism, Great Armenian-American fusion folk

Great Alterna-folk CD from Gor. Fantastic blend of Armenian and American alternative-folk styles, yet totally unique as the artist is. Although I would have liked one or two Armenian language pieces amidst the English language, for his first (?) all-English language CD, it's fantastic. I particularly like 'Stigma' and the English version is great as well as the Armenian version on an earlier album. Highly Recommended!!

  • easy to get hooked on!

  • gor's always good!

It's always a pleasure to have new music from Gor -- made with a lot of heart & perception, & always a restless curious intelligence, which can be seen in the words & the arrangements, esp. when he re-casts a song in a new arrangement. All the songs (but one, maybe) on this CD are English translations & new settings of songs previously released in Armenian. The translations are very good (as much as I, with my beginner's Armenian can translate). But in translation, they become something different. I have to say that I prefer the original Armenian versions. Gor has given us some tantalizing, but short examples of songs written in English -- i.e. the extra on the end of "Episode". Perhaps he will grace us with songs written specifically for English?

  • Gor's jazzy folk rocks with a variety of sounds!

"GOR" is Gor's finest piece of Western folky uplifting music with the beautiful Armenian Oud sound. The Oud is one of the oldest middle eastern string instruments, a fretless neck with a bass & guitar sound....combined with some jazzy licks it sounds great!

One our all-time favorite artists, Gor Mkhitarian continues to impress and surprise us with his ability to keep his own, unique sound constantly fresh and inviting. In this self-titled release, he bends more towards a David Gray or Sting-like sound- but even though those comparisons are hard to resist, this man is never one to be derivative or cliche. Blending in his Armenian background with slightly jazzy and folky western pop, he has once again, produced a bench mark album. Don't miss it.
